Manager Institutional Data and Analytics
We are seeking a Manager of Institutional Data and Analytics. This position will be responsible for implementing the strategic vision of the Carey Office of Institutional Data and Analytics (OIDA); providing leadership to OIDA staff; and promoting a culture of inquiry at Carey that informs decision making and measures institutional effectiveness. This position leads and oversees the following activities: developing systems for reporting data to internal and external stakeholders; analyzing and interpreting data; conducting benchmarking studies and surveys; supporting departmental efforts to collect and analyze data to improve business operations and student learning; and influencing data systems’ collection, extraction, and quality.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage the Office of Institutional Data and Analytics Staff
- Manage institutional research staff (2 or more people, as well as graduate assistants, as needed).
- Provide ongoing feedback with focus on staff development related to technical, analytic, and presentation skills.
- Conduct mid-year and annual reviews.
- Develops and manages a budget that supports professional growth of OIDA staff and helps the school achieve short-term and long-term institutional data objectives.
- Develop and implement short and long-term plans for the unit that fit the priorities and strategic direction of the Carey Business School.
- Establish the unit as the central source of data analyses.
Institutional Research Efforts:
- Oversee and coordinate institutional research activities for the School, including data analysis projects; trend reporting; internal survey administration (designing, conducting, and/or analyzing survey data) developing metrics and assessing outcomes; responding to internal and external data requests and surveys, benchmarking, providing ranking-related data and analyses; and maintaining data integrity.
- Establish and advance a rigorous analytical approach and commitment to data-informed decision making
- Ensure accuracy and promptness of data produced.
- Create redundancy within the unit to ensure seamless operations.
- Lend expertise to internal teams and committees.
- Serve as an expert in the field through active participation in professional associations and staying abreast of trends and future directions.
- Continually define ways to increase customer satisfaction and deepen relationships.
- Manage relationships and communications with other Carey offices where services may overlap.
- Maintain connection with JHU’s Institutional Research Office.
- Participate and represent the school to institution- and university-wide IR committees.
- Work with the School’s deans and directors to collaborate on institutional research projects that inform decision-making and measure institutional effectiveness.
- Manage priorities across the school and effectively communicate with all constituents.
Data Survey and Analysis Expertise:
- Conceptualize, design, and lead analytic studies and the visualization of findings.
- Deliver effective presentations summarizing key insights derived from analytic studies to various stakeholder groups within the school.
- Build, maintain, and present predictive data models around student outcomes, student success, rankings, etc.
- Conceptualize and design dashboards of key metrics.
- Facilitate the design and administration of survey instruments.
- Recommend and implement strategies for disseminating data within and outside the school.
- Achieve highly effective solutions to significant and complex problems.
- Attend professional conferences and participate in forums to identify and implement (as appropriate) best practices and emerging trends in the field.
- Demonstrate a commitment to student success through the use of data that is aligned to the school’s mission, vision, values, and priorities.
Project Management:
- Oversee and coordinate major institutional research projects within the Carey Business School.
- Champion change and effectively manage the implementation of new ideas.
- Establish and build relationships with software vendors, as applicable.
- Communicate effectively with faculty and staff to identify data needs and evaluate appropriate solutions and strategies.
Minimum Qulifications (Mandatory)
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Seven years of experience progressively responsible experience in a related position.
- Additional education (Master's level) may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in data science and analytics, statistics, educational methods and research, or other applicable fields.
- Experience in a higher education setting preferred.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to collaborate with a broad array of school and university leaders.
- Excellent analytical and conceptual problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead and coordinate complex research and analysis projects, utilizing appropriate statistical methodologies, predictive modeling, survey design, sampling strategies, and data visualization.
- Experience with creating, developing, and managing dashboards in Tableau, PowerBI, or similar tool.
- Strong knowledge of data analysis techniques and hands-on experience with statistical software (R, SPSS, SAS, or similar tool).
- Experience in working with diverse groups to gain consensus, achieve cooperation among the units and work successfully with personnel from diverse backgrounds to reach a common goal.
- Ability to assess priorities, respond quickly to changing needs and balance competing responsibilities.
- Ability to lead, develop, evaluate, and manage performance and activities of institutional research staff.
- Extensive knowledge of project management methodologies and ability to implement industry standards.
- Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.
