Multimedia Technician


General Duties

Johns Hopkins Engineering for Professionals (EP) is seeking a Multimedia Technician to serve in its Center for Digital and Media Initiatives.  EP is the division of the Whiting School of Engineering that serves online and part-time students across 20 engineering and applied science master’s degree and certificate programs.


The successful candidate must be highly self-driven, proactive, and demonstrate the ability to work independently, maintain organization and customer service excellence with faculty and staff. This position reports to the Director of the Center for Digital and Media Initiatives (CDMI) and is located at the Stieff Silver Building in Baltimore, Maryland.  The Multimedia Technician will work very closely with EP instructional design and technology staff in developing materials for online courses, and instructor training resources. In addition, the Multimedia Technician will support the delivery of online synchronous lectures, event livestreams, and work with marketing staff in contribution to marketing videos. CDMI manages studios at the Stieff Silver Building, Homewood Campus, and the Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, MD.


The primary duties of the Multimedia Technician will be to:

  • Record and edit audio and video of instructors and guest lecturers to be employed in EP online and virtual live courses.
  • Collaborate with instructional design and technology staff to create effective online training resources for instructors.
  • Maintain the AV equipment at CDMI studios and classrooms spaces at Stieff, Homewood, and APL.
  • Record and edit audio and video of special events and marketing pieces for publishing to web.
  • Provide support to and/or livestream program-based events.
  • Provide support to instructors on best practices when creating video recordings.
  • Provide classroom AV support for course lecture capture.
  • Work with various software tools to enhance multimedia presentations, for example, Adobe Creative Cloud editing tools. Uploading videos to Kaltura – our online video streaming service.
  • Preform other related duties as assigned or requested.


  • REQUIRED: A bachelor’s degree; two years of closely-related experience; knowledge of and experience with audio and video techniques and tools, including web conferencing and live streaming; knowledge and the ability to operate professional audio and video recording and production equipment; ability to exercise diplomatic communication skills while working with highly-specialized faculty and staff to create the best product for the required learning modality; strong self-management skills; reliable transportation.
  • PREFERRED: Experience working in an educational environment.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.


The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
