Multimedia Technician

IT@JH Networking, Telecom and Data Ctr is seeking a Multimedia Technician who is responsible for providing audio visual support for conference rooms managed by the AVC team with primary focus at the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus. Will also provide backup support for the conference rooms and event spaces at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Bayview Medical Center on an as needed basis. Weekday after hours and weekend availability required.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Standard Audio Visual (AV) room support includes, but is not limited to,

  • Provides primary technical troubleshooting and 'smart hands' support for Cisco video codecs, Mersive Solstice pods, and other AV peripherals across all conference rooms managed by the AVC team at the Homewood campus.
  • Supports Executive Support teams across campuses by troubleshooting all supported hardware and configurations in spaces managed by the AVC team.
  • Assists AV Engineers with hardware installation for new conference room setups at the Homewood campus.
  • Travels to Johns Hopkins Hospital and Bayview Medical Center campuses as needed to provide AV support.
  • Delivers and sets up AV equipment, including LCD projectors, portable audio systems, PCs, microphones (handheld and lavalier), flat-screen displays, and additional peripherals.
  • Recovers and cleans up AV equipment after events, including projectors, audio systems, PCs, microphones, flat-screen displays, and other peripherals.
  • Troubleshoots equipment in conference rooms and connect peripherals to existing AV systems.
  • Manages connectivity to online collaboration platforms (e.g., Zoom and Teams) and integrate them with room AV systems, including projectors, microphones, and sound systems.
  • Provides onsite support throughout scheduled events, including meeting setup, launch, and post-meeting breakdown.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in MS Office software (Word and PowerPoint) Zoom and Teams for meeting setup and customer support.
  • Maintains strong familiarity with computers and basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Performs additional duties as needed to support the AVC team and enterprise customers.

  • Strong familiarity with computer systems and troubleshooting.

  • Excellent customer service skills, demonstrated through a kind, positive, and helpful approach.

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including after-hours and weekend support when necessary.

  • Quick learner who asks questions when clarification is needed.

  • Proactive and professional approach to taking ownership of responsibilities.



Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Four years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination.
