Multimedia/Graphic Design Specialist


Purpose of Position:

The Multimedia/Graphic Design Specialist is responsible for the integration of multimedia and graphics into the design and development of online courses. Working to meet faculty needs in AAP, the Multimedia Systems/Graphic Design Specialist coordinates and develops graphics and multimedia projects for online delivery to students, assists in the implementation of other multimedia technologies, and performs a multitude of differing and immediate responsibilities as new technology is adopted. 


Knowledge and Skill:

  • In-depth knowledge of several graphic design software including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign.
  • High level of understanding of design concepts, principles, processes, color theory, and typography.
  • In-depth knowledge of video and audio production.
  • In-depth knowledge of video editing platforms (Final Cut X, PremierePro, and AfterEffects), camera operation and lighting, audio recording, digital photography, and/or media management.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills, particularly in client-representative interactions.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use Adobe Creative Suite (Dreamweaver, Flash, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro), PDF authoring, Final Cut Pro, and other video and audio editing programs.
  • Experience with Contributing creatively to design and idea generation.
  • Knowledge of and ability to execute the elements of graphic design principles.
  • Understanding and experience with copyright and fair use guidelines for using multimedia materials.
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize tasks, and the ability to deal with multiple constituencies concurrently.
  • Must be a proactive problem-solver, have the ability to take the initiative with projects, and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to acquire, synthesize and share expert professional knowledge.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills are required to work well with faculty, staff, and vendors.
  • Ensure efficient and effective print and multimedia design and layout of print and web publications in accordance with accessibility standards.
  • Must be comfortable with taking initiative, able to work under minimal supervision.


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor's degree in fine arts, graphic design, or related field.
  • Four years experience and a portfolio.
  • No equivalency.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Masters degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of in-depth experience in graphic design, multimedia, distance learning, marketing publications, videography, web-based applications,  and streaming media.
  • Minimum of two years of in-depth experience in video pre-production, production and post-production.
  • Excellent graphic and verbal communication skills Experience with 360-degree cameras and editing.
  • Experience working with motion graphics, 3D design, curriculum design and web accessibility (WCAG 2.0).
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Pro and Articulate Storyline.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Mac OS and PC.
  • Knowledge of  HTML, CSS, and web development tools .
  • Knowledge of Maxon Cinema 4D, Unreal, or Unity.
  • Knowledge of Social media content creation, Game design, Animation, 3D Modeling, or extended reality technologies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Design, Development, and Implementation

  • Consult with AAP faculty and IRC team on the creation of multimedia projects.
  • Use graphic design knowledge and experience to create clear and engaging visual materials/resources that effectively meet the needs of IRC projects and courses.
  • Design and develop multimedia objects including but not limited to:
    • Graphics, animations, and simulations.
    • Video presentations.
    • Narrated slide presentations.
    • Screen captures.
    • Audio recordings.
  • Plan, coordinate, manage and direct details of photo/video shoots with content experts and project leads.
  • Capture footage, direct, edit, and complete videos while coaching talent on how to effectively deliver messages and connect with the learning audience.
  • Develop high quality and cutting-edge immersive media.
  • Designs IRC communication materials to support the marketing of IRC services and resources (training documentation, newsletter, email templates, brochures) .
  • Explore current design trends and determine how to translate those trends into a coherent design strategy for AAP courses.
  • Research emerging technologies, extended reality technologies, and new applications for further recommendation and implementation.
  • Implement design practices that are effective and meet defined objectives.
  • Present design information in clear and concise formats.



  • Serve as a member of a course development team, which may include subject-matter experts, program directors, instructional designers, multimedia specialists, etc.
  • Manage project timelines and coordinate with IRC staff and partners to meet project deliverables.
    • Generate weekly reports on the status of projects.


Supervision of Student Workers

  • Provide primary and secondary supervisory support to the student workers.
  • Provide necessary training to student workers.
    • Training facilitates end-user success.
  • Manage IRC student employees workload.
    • Ensure that students are productive, efficient and effective in the completion of assigned tasks.

Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
