Museum Coordinator


General Summary/Purpose:

The Museum Coordinator will support overall museum operations with a focus on education and interpretation at the museum including recruiting, scheduling, training, and overseeing museum docents, student interns, and student docents; scheduling group tours to the museum; providing general museum administrative support; and supporting the development and execution of museum tour content, gallery interpretation, and educational programs.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Schedule docents and student employees
  • Schedule group tours to the museum
  • Recruiting docents, student employees, and student interns with a view toward growing the student presence at Evergreen
  • Train docents and oversee docent performance
  • Coordinate docent trips, docent appreciation events, and other docent-focused activities
  • Support development of new museum tours, gallery interpretation, and education programs
  • Support museum events and programs (attending events, event set up and break down)
  • Provide administrative support to the museum including maintaining museum schedules and calendars; answering phones; executing promotional mailings (electronic and paper mail)


Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • One year of museum experience required.
  • Related college coursework may substitute for required experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • College degree preferred. B.A. in art history, history, or related subject.
  • Experience working with audiences of diverse ages; experience working with volunteers; administrative experience.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.


The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
