Network Experience Manager, BCPI

Johns Hopkins University seeks a Network Experience Manager for the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation (the Center). The Center is quickly becoming a globally recognized organization focused on advancing the art and science of public sector innovation, especially among local governments. The Center works to increase awareness of the impact of local government innovation with a special emphasis on the ways in which residents contribute to the design, development, and delivery of new services and policy approaches.


Working closely with the Network Manager and Director of Communications, the Network Experience Manager will support the development of the Bloomberg Cities Network and the Center’s expansive communications practice that connects innovators from around the world. The ideal candidate will have prior experience designing stakeholder engagements, special experiences, peer networks, alumni networks, membership programs and recognition programs for emerging and active social impact and public service leaders or other highly professional sectors.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collaboratively design and execute dynamic stakeholder affinity programs and special experiences and events that connect leading city innovators and academics through the Bloomberg Cities Network.
  • Conceptualize arts, culture, and special events and experiences including leveraging research to engage target audiences, featured presenters and talent, site planning, collaboration partners and program coordination.
  • Serve as a contributing advisor to membership marketing and engagement plans, working with Communications practice colleagues to deliver affinity and membership benefits programs.
  • Provide and serve as the source of new engagement opportunities for building affinity, engaging, and retaining the interest of executive leaders from across the globe.
  • Create benefit experiences that are inclusive, equitable, and accessible.
  • Prepare reports, summaries, presentations, and other work products for dissemination to the Center’s leadership and external partners, including Bloomberg Philanthropies.


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience with political, historic, or cultural venue events sales and management, preferably in an academic or nonprofit setting.
  • Additional education may be substituted for some experience.*


JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience.  For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years’ experience in technical production for large-scale events preferred.
  • Undergraduate Degree and 5-7 years’ experience in designing and managing member engagement, special events, alumni programs, membership programs, executive training, symposiums, and/or peer networking experiences in both digital and in-person formats.
  • Ability to work productively with a range of executives, partners, and stakeholders, including elected officials and academics, to shape arts, culture, and executive programs.
  • Experience designing both in-person and virtual stakeholder benefits programming. 
  • Ability to leverage programming, events, and experiences to build long-term affinity, generate stakeholder interest, and convert and grow member stakeholder audiences.
  • Track record of developing winning recognition programs and competitive world-class special events for public audiences.
  • A working understanding of membership affinity/executive engagement programs.
  • Some understanding of the types of challenges municipal governments typically face preferred.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, project management software, and virtual meeting platforms; working knowledge of event planning; proficiency in social media and other digital engagement tools.
  • Working knowledge of customer relationship management platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and calendars simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to set priorities and respond quickly as priorities change.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build good relationships with peers and to interact with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to collect and synthesize information and provide summary reports.
  • Ability to work both cooperatively within a team and independently
  • Experience in engaging others to support a movement.


Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability to relate articulately and with diplomacy with diverse groups including President, Provost, trustees, faculty, staff, alumni, major supporters of the university, and the general public.
  • Must be organized and demonstrate ability to work independently, multi- task, function effectively in fast-paced environment.
  • Must show great attention to detail and follow through to completion within time constraints.
  • Proficient computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet maintenance, and email systems.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
