Nurse Practitioner

We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner to perform history, physical examinations and care to patients in the Pediatrics Pulmonary Division under physician care.  The NP will assist with the development of and communication of care plan for patients, with parents, providers and referring physicians. The NP will provide education to parents, develop care paths and protocols for the longitudinal care, consult with community physicians in the care of patients and provide consultation for hospitalized children with complex respiratory care needs. Provide acute and longitudinal ambulatory care for children with complex respiratory disease. Participate with the physician staff in the professional fee billing for services.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive and/or episodic health assessments.
  • Records and documents assessment necessary to maintain, coordinate, and/or expedite required services. 

  • Perform history and physical exams, discriminating between normal and abnormal findings.
  • Identify differential diagnosis.


Establishes a Plan of Care Including

  • Order appropriate lab, radiographic and other studies.
  • Appropriately interpret results of lab, radiographic and other studies.
  • Performs tests and procedures as indicated within scope of practice.
  • Establish a plan of care related to patient’s identified problems, including medication and therapeutic procedures.
  • Consult with other team members regarding proposed treatment guidelines as necessary.


Implements Plan of Care in Safe & Effective Manner

  • Prescribe and regulate medications and performs other related procedures within the Maryland Board of Nursing scope of practice for the Nurse Practitioner.
  • Record patient visit/interaction in concise clear logical and timely manner.
  • Arrange referrals to appropriate specialties when needed.
  • Triage patient telephone calls, messages, and interactions appropriately.
  • Tracks patient compliance with treatment plan.

Organizes Workload to Meet Patient & Organizational Needs 

  • Work collaboratively with the health team members to facilitate smooth operations of the unit.
  • Maintain consistent level of productivity. Identifies problems that impede overall functioning and initiates appropriate interventions.
  • Utilize time management to see patients in an efficient manner as identified by departmental goals.


Communicates with Healthcare Team Members to Assure Patient & Organizational Needs are Met

  • Supervise activities of team members as appropriate.
  • Identify areas of weakness in operational systems and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Communicate significant information in an organized, logical, and concise manner to co-workers.
  • Provide constructive feedback as it relates to performance in an appropriate manner.
  • Adheres to the confidentiality policy as outlined in the interdisciplinary Clinical Practice Manual.
  • Analyzes research findings and current trends in the area of specialty and applies the information, as appropriate, to improve the management of patient care.


Participates in the Development of the Interdisciplinary Team

  • Supports the orientation of newly hired nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner students.
  • Supports the education of the interdisciplinary team.


Collaborates with the Interdisciplinary Team to Assure Organizational Goals are Met

  • Supports quality and safety initiatives.
  • Supports the institutions Core Values.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Nursing. Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be licensed as NP in State of Maryland or other state where practicing.
  • Additional experience may substitute for master's Degree, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Three to five years Pediatric NP experience.
  • Previous pediatric inpatient care experience.
  • Pediatric critical care experience.
  • Epic Experience.

 


**Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification required.  Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.  Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date**

 

Physical Requirements: 

Sitting, standing and walking for extended period. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.  Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s).  Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.
