Ophthalmic Clinical Supervisor (Ophthalmology)
We are seeking an Ophthalmic Clinical Supervisor who will supervise and manage Technician staff and the day-to-day clinical operations. Coordinates the efficient flow of patients, staff and providers in a busy clinic environment. Recommends, develops and implements initiatives to enhance clinical operations. Acts proactively to troubleshoot problems, resolves and diffuses patient, physician and clinical staff issues. Fosters a team environment and is a mentor for clinical staff. Acts independently with professionalism and efficiency.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Recruiting, hiring, training and overseeing ophthalmic technicians (up to 10 technicians).
- Ensuring all technicians are JCAHPO certified.
- Managing the clinic flow, building / re-building staff schedules and monitoring provider templates.
- Tracking technicians’ required compliance with obtaining patient name, date of birth and ERM number prior to performing any test or procedure to prevent identification errors.
- Ensuring all clinical product instructions for use are accurately followed.
- Troubleshooting clinic equipment issues/problems. Communicating with Wilmer IT and/or vendor when necessary.
- Monitoring supplies and instrument inventory. Placing replacement orders timely.
- Acting as liaison between providers and technicians and between providers and administration.
- Acting as advocate to address patient questions and diffuse/resolve complaints. Escalating issues as needed.
- Assisting with onboarding new providers.
- Working with Wilmer development and Marketing to promote Maumenee 3.
- Scheduling VIP appointment requests.
- Ensuring all patients including high priority and Executive health participants receive exceptional service.
- Meeting Johns Hopkins business metrics.
- Assisting with reviews and responses to Epic In-Basket messages from patients.
- Troubleshooting clinic equipment issues/problems; communicating with Wilmer IT and/or vendor when necessary,
- Acting as liaison between providers and technicians and between providers and administration.
- Filling in as technician when needed.
- Overseeing clinic flow to reduce/prevent backups.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High school Diploma/GED and three (3) years’ experience as an ophthalmic technician and some supervisory or related administrative experience.
- Must have Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification from Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) or obtain within 18 months of start date.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: $47,320 - $84,240 Annually ($60,000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
