General Description

 

Full-time position in Neurology; 40 hours per week; Monday – Friday

Provide clinical and research related diagnostic medical images that are used by neurologists in managing patients with neurologic and ocular conditions.

Properly assist physically or visually disabled patients. Assist on research projects that require image documentation. Screen patient charts for study eligibility using exclusion criteria. Obtain informed consent from potential research participants and/or confirm informed consent obtained. Measure visual acuity at distance and near utilizing test appropriate for age and education and record accurately. Measure contrast sensitivity. Perform routine maintenance on all ophthalmic equipment. Understand and practice the fundamentals of microbial control. Disinfect and maintain examination room and equipment. Perform data entry and analysis.

Perform other duties as required.
 

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED. Solid knowledge of ocular anatomy. (This would typically be obtained by working with an ophthalmologist in a clinical setting.) Certified in CPR. Quickly learn Retinal Function Imager (RFI) acquisition and become fluent in post-acquisition processing protocols.

Ability to work closely with patients in a clinical setting. Ability to work independently in outpatient clinic setting. Able to communicate effectively with patients, clinic staff, physicians, and study team members on a daily basis. Highly motivated to improve the care of patients and is committed to making an impact by recognizing and fulfilling a valuable role in patient care and research.

Computer skills and facility with common software such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Able to manage digital images and files, i.e. burning CDs, electronic transfer, etc. Become familiar with protocols and obtain imaging study certifications for national clinical research trials.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) acquisition expertise.

  • The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
