Physician Assistant
The Department of Surgery, Trauma Division is seeking an Acute Care Physician Assistant to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team and is responsible for providing comprehensive care, including preoperative and postoperative care to patients being evaluated for Trauma. AP provides patient education as well as routine history and physical assessments and evaluation of lab tests.
This individual will assist with inpatient (on the Surgical Floor), outpatient care (in the Surgery Clinic) and work with the Trauma Surgery team; order appropriate treatments and medications; strive for quality patient care and safety initiatives; and complete all necessary documentation and billing information as appropriate and meet compliance guidelines. The AP is responsible for providing comprehensive and age-appropriate care to both well and/or ill patients.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Provides comprehensive, age appropriate, and episodic care to patients as a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team.
- Obtains patient history; Performs patient care and physical or tertiary examinations; Prepares patient summaries
- Develops treatment plan for discharge.
- Provides information to staff regarding patient's care plan and condition.
- Responds and handles telephone calls related to trauma patients.
- Completes patient requested documents (FMLA).
- Consistently develops effective treatment plans for assigned patients according to established protocols and procedures.
- Regularly confers and consults with Surgeons and/or other pertinent professionals before implementing treatment plan.
- Consistently structures all patient care plans to meet educational, physical and social needs appropriate to the patient's age.
- Consistently provides relevant patient care information to the appropriate staff member according to clinical guidelines.
- Provides education to patient and family members regarding diagnosis, complications, treatment and medications in order to provide them with continuous information.
- Works in collaboration with the physician and realizes and is able to detect those deviations from normalcy or from established protocols which require consultation and/or referral to appropriate specialty areas including physicians, nutrition, psycho-social, and other resources.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree; Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body; Completion of a CAAHEP certified Physician Assistant program. Must be licensed as PA in State of Maryland or other state where practicing.
- Experience may be considered in lieu of bachelor's Degree, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

This salary range does not include all components of the Department of Surgery compensation program. This position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.
