Progam Manager

The Department of Government, Community, and Economic Partnerships Department (GCE) is seeking a Program Manager to manage a diverse portfolio including: the enterprise-wide Johns Hopkins University and Medicine Annual United Way Campaign and grants management for two grantmaking programs. This position will provide oversight and management for the annual United Way Campaign which will include integrating campaigns offered at JHU and JHHS. Additionally, this position will provide grants management oversight including full grant lifecycle (e.g., reviews applications, monitors progress, issues amendments, and closes grants) including pre-and post-award activities; apply subject matter expertise in the review and management of grants and projects; provide project management expertise and oversee technical assistance; and participate in and develop strategic partnerships with a variety of organizations, including philanthropic organizations, private organizations, etc.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Enterprise-wide Annual United Way

  • Develops a new combined, comprehensive JHU&M annual United Way Campaign.
  • Identifies campaign sponsors and chairs that represent both JHU and JHHS leadership.
  • Collaborates with the Communications team to strategically plan campaign content calendar, and social media content strategy.
  • Oversees planning, coordinating, and implementing campaign special events.
  • Serves as a point of contact for all campaign related questions and coordinates meetings with partners as required.

Grants Management, Johns Hopkins Neighborhood Fund and JHU&M Small Grants Program

  • Provides Strategic Grants Management including,
  • Supports the department’s online application and reporting system, including receipt of complete applications, reports, and award documents in collaboration with Program staff, as needed.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to applicants and grantees, to facilitate their grant application, award, and reporting and use of department’s online system.
  • Develops grant agreements for all programs to ensure grantee compliance with legal requirements and internal policies.
  • Manages grantee reporting, reviewing for completeness and following up with grantees on outstanding issues.
  • Creates and maintain electronic grant files that meet legal, auditing, and department requirements.
  • Ensures data integrity and accuracy in grants management system (Wizehive, Neighborly).
  • Uses grants data, data visualization and other tools to interpret, report and present the department’s grantmaking for internal and external audiences.
  • Creates reports and dashboards, and support leadership in ad-hoc requests.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities  

  • Knowledge of grants management skills, processes, compliance matters, along with policies, procedures, and grants management systems is desirable.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to independently lead multiple projects simultaneously with a focus on quality, creativity, and project follow-through.
  • Ability to provide effective oversight of strategic projects and programs and delivery of technical assistance for grantees.
  • Ability to use software such as grants management applications, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong written communication skills, including project memos for leadership, program summaries, and presentations.
  • Effective customer service communications.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Five years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science or related field.
  • Experience in nonprofit or higher education organizations or a background in grants management.

Total Rewards
The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination.
