Program Specialist

We are seeking a Program Specialist who will oversee day-to-day administrative and programmatic elements of projects working in international family planning, reproductive health, and population dynamics for the William H. Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health. This position is a full-time position based at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. For information about the William H. The Program Specialist is responsible for backstopping administrative and programmatic activities of the William H. Gates Institute, including scheduling, event coordination (travel and meeting logistics), day-to-day problem solving of an office environment, notetaking, writing and editing, programs and platforms, and procurement processing. Works closely with Program Officers and the Communication Officer on a wide range of programmatic and administrative tasks. The position requires some international travel to provide short-term technical assistance and project coordination. The Program Specialist will draft project work plans as well as provide expertise by writing first drafts of project reports, communicating with sponsors and faculty, as well as other documents needed to conduct project work.


The position provides input on materials, strategies, work plans and budgets as needed, undertakes various kinds of research, including literature reviews, web searches and the creation of presentations, develops agendas, and contributes to activity design for all project meetings and events as well as writing and sharing minutes for all meetings. Leads and assists with event planning and activities for WHGI platforms, including the ICFP 2025 and will lead ICFP subcommittee working groups related to these activities. They will also create reports regarding their specific areas of work and make recommendations related to these outcomes. They will also assist with grant-reporting responsibilities to project funders, create PowerPoint presentations, draft correspondence and notes, etc., and provide editing as needed. Lastly, they may be asked to conduct literature reviews and secondary analysis of data to support the Institute faculty and staff. Other duties outside of those mentioned above may be added to support programmatic work as needed.



Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Superb communication (oral and written) skills, tact, and sensitivity to a wide range of cultural environments across international settings required.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Public Health, International Development, or a similar discipline.
  • Experience working in an academic, research, or NGO environment.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Experience working in an academic, research, or advocacy environment.
  • Language skills in Spanish and/or French.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
