Programmer Analyst

General Summary/Purpose

The Micronutrient Research Group at the Center for Human Nutrition is on a mission to improve health outcomes of families in the international and developing world. JH Center for Human Nutrition is seeking a Programmer/Analyst that will play a major role in developing, cultivating, managing, and performing quality control on software and data entry systems that are integrated in the field and data management center. This role will handle data from multiple cohort trials in international settings. They will be the technology/data integrator among the project sites, JHU-based researchers and other related parties to ensure smooth, timely, and accurate data collection for the research projects. The programmer/analyst may also be required to provide technical input on network connectivity, hardware and software used by the projects and team. The programmer/analyst will oversee the work of several programmers located at project sites and at JHU. The successful candidate for this position will be able travel 25-30% of the time to Bangladesh.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise data management for multiple large cluster-randomized, controlled trials in Bangladesh
  • Design, develop, and maintain web-based and tablet-based applications to collect data.  Assist research team in designing forms, program data entry screens and the backend SQL database.
  • Design and implement data integrity tools for consistency checking, data entry quality control, and data quality assurance.
  • Coordinate data migration between the project site and JHU.
  • Provide user support for software applications.
  • Coordinate communication between the different project sites data management centers and JHU research team. Ensure smooth operation of the data management center.
  • Analyze and summarize study progress using monthly reports.
  • Create management tools in the form of rosters, reports and summaries. 
  • Prepare / extract data for investigators / scientific analysis.
  • Manage junior programmers at JHU and the data center managers in project sites.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of related experience required.
     

Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the  JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.  For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

  • Crystal Reports
  • XLSform development
  • Setup of server systems
  • Understanding of networked server environments and security
  • Understanding of data security technology, server vulnerabilities and how to address them on a networked server
  • Excellent understanding of a full stack development system
  • Programming languages: javascript, HTML, ASP, VBScript, SQL 
  • Knowledge and understanding of data protection

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

 

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
