Overview:

Under the leadership of the Executive Director of Career Services, the career center is central in shifting the institution towards a model of career preparedness in which all Johns Hopkins students integrate their career preparation into their academic experience with the same pursuit of excellence – distinguishing themselves as the “talent of choice”.  The mission of the career center at Johns Hopkins University is to:

  • Provide all students and alumni the experiences, knowledge, skills and tools to make smart career decisions and to package and prepare themselves for their pursuits.
  • Close the gap between what employers seek in graduates and what students/alumni come equipped with.

General Description:

The JHU Career Center serves all students and alumni 0 - 5 years out of programs in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and the Whiting School of Engineering. The Sr. Recruiting Operations Coordinator reports directly to the Employer and Market Development Director and works with a team of 6 colleagues to develop relationships with internal and external constituents for the purpose of connecting students and recent graduates with job and internship opportunities. This position specifically manages all aspects of campus recruiting programming for the career center including interviewing, information sessions, networking events and events which connect students with employers and alumni. This position is integral in creating recruiting options offered across the levels of relationships managed by the employer and market development team. Additionally, this role is responsible for surveying employers about their experience on campus, interviews with our students, and transition of hires from on campus recruitment effort. This position will also support the ongoing shift as JHU acclimates to a single career platform (Handshake) and provide insight and advice to processes used by career centers across the university. Finally, this position manages employer relationships focused on building an on campus presence and the inbox and workflow distribution from the Homewood recruit@jhu.edu inbox. The Sr. Recruiting Operations Coordinator also hires, trains and supervises, student interns and employees that support recruiting offerings at JHU.

Specific Duties:

Employer Relationship Development/Management

  • Serves as the front line for new employers and employer inquiries, giving initial recruitment instruction on brand building on Homewood campus. Provides employer’s a connection to the appropriate Employer Relations team member for ongoing relationship development.
  • Develops and maintains relationships directly with alumni, company representatives, and parents interested in building a strong on campus presence as a part of their recruiting strategy. 
  • Coordinates and manages JHU’s on-campus recruiting processes, including customer relations, scheduling, troubleshooting, and developing / communicating policies to employers and students.

    Troubleshoot employer issues and questions regarding job postings and interview scheduling in Handshake.

Internal Liaison/Facilitator:

  • Communicates opportunities cultivated from business development activities to the talent/capability team and tracks applicants.
  • Provides regular updates on the OCR program regularly to CC staff, campus partners and students.
  • Supports SSEI through representing and advocating for Homewood recruitment policies and procedures in a single career platform environment.

Research/Strategy:

  • Develops and maintains recruiting materials for employers. 
  • Creates and implements an on campus recruiting strategy for the ER team to use when consulting with prospective employers.
  • Prepares recruiting reports for assigned companies and affiliate relationships.

Data Reporting/Tracking:

  • Utilizes CRM to track external engagement with recruiters and alumni recruiting partners.
  • Tracks recruiting activity analytics (number of views, number of applicants, marketing effectiveness, program attendance, resulting hires) for assigned recruiting partners.
  • Manages hire survey process with employers to determine recruitment yield from on-campus interviewing.
  • Develops employer recruitment surveys to monitor employer recruitment experience and ensure employer satisfaction. Suggest and implement changes in recruitment process based on survey data.

Events/Programming:

  • Evaluate, troubleshoot, and execute OCR processes and procedures related to employer engagement.
  • Implements new recruiting programming strategy for the employer and market development team.
  • Designs, coordinates, implements and participates in relevant career center events (e.g Post-Career Fair Interviews).
  • Coordinates scheduling, staffing, and logistics for all on-campus recruitment events.

Supervision/Administration:

  • Supervises several student employees supporting recruiting programs.
  • Determines student staffing needs for recruiting programs and events.
  • Oversees job posting referral process for staff and student employees.
  • Greets and hosts employers in the office and serves as a resource for answering front line recruiting questions in the front office.
  • Manages the recruit box, and distributes work across the employer and market development team generated through the recruit box.

Education:         

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

Experience:       

  • One year of related experience in Career Services, Development, Alumni Relations, Admissions, Talent Management, Recruiting or Organizational Development required.
  • Experience with Handshake or Simplicity preferred.

Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • A track record of success in partnering and developing successful long term client relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment that requires quick turnaround and quality output.
  • Comfortable with various technologies connected to relationship management and recruiting. Experience using a CRM to track relationships strongly preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to run reports and analyze data in Excel.
  • Experience managing college student employees and creating programming/resources for college students and campus partners.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, innovative and willingness to try new things.
  • Exhibits a high level of professionalism and commitment to customer service.
  • Ability to complete tasks on time and with minimal supervision.
  • Self-motivated, ability to set goals and execute business development activities with confidence.
  • Flexibility to perform in an ever-changing and rapidly growing work environment.
  • Ability to commit to some early morning, evening, and weekend work, especially at peak recruiting times.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
