Research Analyst

The Johns Hopkins University is seeking a Research Analyst who will develop, design and manage substantial research projects, coordinates own objectives and those of laboratory team members. The candidate may oversee data collection, analysis, and verification based on specialized skill and knowledge and use advanced knowledge base to formulate research method. This will be a great opportunity to co-author/author publications, contribute original thoughts, hypotheses, and analysis to write reports, abstracts and manuscripts.

Speak at or attend conference representing issues and Hopkins research. Write grant proposals utilizing the application of specialized knowledge with discretion and judgment. Independently develop protocol and criteria. Make decisions regarding research projects that may require assessment, revision of objectives, or altering scientific direction; considers resources and lab priorities when making decisions.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work on a high throughput functional genomics project that relies heavily on the use of microarray technology.
  • Implement and execute methodologies for
    • 10x Chromium Single Cell Library Prep, High-Throughput Sequencing, and NovaSeq Platform.
    • DNA, RNA, Small RNA, 16sRNA, ATAC, and Metagenomics library preps and sequencing
  • Perform microarray sample preparation, hybridization, data extraction and basic analyses.
  • Perform nucleic acid extractions and quality control analyses.
  • Manage project sign-ins.
  • Coordinate reagent and sample deliveries.
  • Maintain Laboratory instruments.
  • Order supplies.
  • Troubleshoot protocols to ensure accuracy in execution.
  • Organize refrigerators and freezers to ensure sufficient space for sample.
  • Analyzes single-cell RNA-Seq and ATAC-Seq data.
  • Familiar with CellRanger and similar software tools.
  • Independently perform research assays.
  • Summarize research data results in formats suitable for scientific presentations.
  • Identify and select the best options regarding scientific strategies and research development.
  • Coordinate own work objectives and those of project team members.
  • Teach, train, and counsel other laboratory members.
  • Maintain technical proficiency and obtain new skills as needed, based on information from literature and/or collaboration with colleagues.
  • Cultivates network with vendor representatives and other laboratories to access information, techniques, and supplies.
  • Participate in meetings and professional presentations.
  • Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in a related science.
  • Six (6) years related experience, with proven technical knowledge and laboratory experience.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in molecular biology, Biotechnology, or related field.
  • Experience with the directional workflow practices of a PCR laboratory.
  • In-depth scientific knowledge and competency.
  • Experience in experimental design, conduct, and analysis.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), Excel, Powerpoint.
  • Familiarity with high throughput technologies, yeast biology, database design and structure, website design, and/or statistical programming languages (e.g., ‘R’) will be considered great advantages.
