Research Assistant - Casual

This position is for an average of 10 hours per week from now through fall with possibilities to extend for additional months. We are seeking a Research Assistant who will support the development of a course on Maternal and Child Health in India/SEAR with a focus on programs, policies, politics and advocacy to inform research and practice. be offered as a collaborative effort between the MCHI, PGIMER Chandigarh and other key partners in India and JHSPH. The RA will contribute to content development and coordination and support of technical expert contributors to develop and deliver a responsive, high-quality online curriculum by and for those leading maternal and child health interventions in India and beyond (e.g. from government agencies, development partners, Indian universities, and frontline workers and women) to assist them in building stronger systems by informing policy and advocacy.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Literature reviews on focused topics to contribute to course content development.
  • Preparation of interview guides and other supporting material for course contributors.
  • Support coordination and knowledge management to ensure the course team and all content remain organized.
  • Contribute to video editing and development of content for upload on the CoursePlus platform.
  • Preparations for course promotion and launch.
  • Liaise with course faculty and learners to ensure smooth implementation of the course.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate should have experience and/or a desire to develop additional skills in training or course development and/or experience working in India.
  • In addition, an interest in maternal and child health, women’s rights/empowerment, and any aspect of policy and advocacy work in low resources settings would be an asset.
  • Experience conducting literature reviews and synthesizing main messages out of large quantities of evidence is a plus.
  • The student would also ideally have a high level of responsibility and independence and should be able to interact regularly with the JHU team and other course partners in a professional, confident, and knowledgeable manner.
  • This opportunity enables a student to gain skills in many different aspects of a global health curriculum/training program. The position additionally provides the potential to liaise with top experts across disciplines in India; and the possibility of harnessing these linkages in future works.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
