Research Assistant

Our study aims to promote health and help an individual with cancer manage their symptoms using auricular point acupressure and other nonpharmacological interventions. We are seeking a Research Assistant. Responsibilities of the graduate research assistant will include recruiting, enrolling, collecting data collection during study visits, following participants, and managing and analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data as well as research-related work. The Research Assistant will be trained to assist the Principal Investigator (PI) with the data collection and acupressure intervention during the study visits and work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), Sr. Research coordinator, and research team members in all aspects of the study management. Communicates with the study team and PI on all clinical aspects of patient management. Works with other staff members to ensure rapid data entry and good quality.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conducting in-person meetings with study participants at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins School of Nursing to gather data, which may involve measuring quantitative metrics and performing blood draws. This may require a flexible schedule during weekdays.
  • Developing and delivering personalized weekly exercise recommendations for participants.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and regulations throughout the research process. Protect participant confidentiality and privacy, obtain informed consent, and adhere to ethical principles and practices.
  • Collaborate effectively with the project team, including researchers, supervisors, and other research assistants. Maintain open and clear communication channels to ensure smooth project coordination and progress.
  • Perform administrative tasks related to the project, such as scheduling meetings, organizing files, and managing project-related documentation.
  • Assist in collecting data through surveys, interviews, observations, and focus groups. This will involve scheduling and conducting data collection sessions and ensuring data quality and accuracy.
  • Maintain organized and detailed documentation of research procedures, protocols, and findings. This includes recording data collection processes, managing data files, and documenting analysis techniques used.
  • Serve as backup for research protocols (other than primary assignment) as needed.
  • Maintain quality of source documentation and research integrity
  • Attend study meetings to represent the research unit and grow in knowledge of data quality and the federal regulations governing clinical research.
  • Participate in other research initiatives as workload allows.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Research and Sponsored Projects Manager or the PI of the project.
  • Available to attend the meetings and community engagement activities in person.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree desired.
  • Some experience in leading and submitting research manuscripts for the peer review journals is preferred.
  • Ability to work with populations across ages, sexual orientations, and socio-economic circumstances.
  • Experience performing venipuncture as a certified phlebotomist a plus.
  • Experiences in plan and conducting biological laboratory testing.
