General Summary/Purpose


The Research Assistant (RA) will provide support to a multidisciplinary team.  The RA position will focus his/her efforts on assisting with the coordination of multiple projects in the Global Obesity Prevention Center (GOPC).  The RA will assist with the execution of multiple projects.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Responsibilities include preforming literature searches, gathering data, helping design, develop, run, and analyze, interpret, and present results/outputs from computational models. This will include helping develop models in existing software packages such as TreeAge, Microsoft Excel, as well as working with and guiding the programmer to develop home grown models. Responsibilities also include preparation of reports and manuscripts for publication. 

The RA should have the ability to understand processes and systems to translate these into the design of a model and its sets of relationships and inputs and outputs.  The position will involve interfacing with various partners.



Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in related discipline. Some related experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


* JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.  For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *



Preferred Qualifications


Candidates should have a basic knowledge of public health practices and principles. Critical thinking skills and comfortable with computers and various types of software.


Proficiency in MS Office programs.


Ability to learn new software applications.


Experience with any modeling software (e.g. TreeAge, Microsoft Excel) not required but helpful.


Proficiency in JAVA is a plus.  


Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively in a team environment.
