Research Assistant
The Johns Hopkins University Krieger School of Arts and Sciences (KSAS) seeks a Research Assistant within the Mind Brain Institute who will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and support neuroscience research projects focused on the histological, biological, and neuroscientific investigation of rodent decision-making. Responsibilities include neural recording, anatomy, histology, tissue processing, and training mice to perform complex cognitive tasks
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform intricate neurophysiological experiments.
- Training rodent animals.
- Perform tissue processing.
- Order viruses and cooperate with CORES at JHU.
- Maintain the viruses and rodent colony.
- Train others to do these tasks in a team environment.
- Will be involved in regulatory application, protocol implementation, and compliance.
- Follow all institutional research rules and guidelines.
- Represent the study team at study initiation/monitoring meetings.
- Schedule, perform, and/or monitor data collection per protocol requirements.
- Assists with data analysis, interpretation, manuscript, and abstract preparation.
- Must be able to be mobile and travel to support these tasks.
- Collaborate with computational neuroscientists in the lab to develop and oversee novel experiments in the field of cognitive neuroscience.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient in various computer programming languages and software development methodologies.
- Experience in training rodents for behavioral studies, including conditioning, observational techniques, and data collection.
- Ability to prepare and process biological tissues for analysis, including fixation, embedding, sectioning, and staining.
- Knowledge base in medicine.
- Neurophysiology skills are essential.
- Ability to design complex rodent cognitive tasks.
- Ability to program the tasks and perform neurophysiological experiments.
- Ability to advise and train others to do complex neuroscience research is important.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge base in medicine is preferred.
- One year of related experience, including proven technical knowledge and laboratory experience.

Starting Salary Range: $17.20 - $21.00 - $30.30 HRLY (Commensurate w/exp.)
