Research Data Analyst

General Summary/Purpose

The Research Data Analyst will be responsible for data management, communication with investigators to determine their needs, conduct statistical analyses for investigators and process data access requests for an on-going surveillance study of HIV-related behaviors in Baltimore as well as a new project focused on health and well-being of transgender and non-binary individuals.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Specific duties will include informing the design of data collection instruments and study operations, participation in the conduct and development of interview trainings, supervision in the field and evaluations.  They will manage study databases and ensure integrity, accuracy and security of data and data collection processes.  They will be responsible for data cleaning, data submissions and data quality control based on protocol requirements and study objectives.  They will coordinate with study partners to ensure clean and consistent data handling and oversee data process monitoring.  They will work closely with the research collaborators to produce regular data reports, process, statistically analyze and interpret data, provide solutions to data management and statistical analysis problems, design data analysis plans and contribute to preparation of data presentations and publications.  They will write programming codes to produce overall descriptive statistics, and exploratory data analyses including graphs and regression models.  They will create and maintain databases for archiving analytic results and other research project information.  They will keep abreast of technical and academic resources related to the methodology of statistical analyses.  They will assist with community engagement and data collection as needed and attend meetings and national teleconferences as required.  Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related discipline.

Three (3) years related experience.

 

Additional education (Master's level) may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis.  For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

 

 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in related discipline.  Experience in an academic setting. 

  • Skill with SAS, Stata and/or RDSAT software preferred. 
  • Knowledge of Respondent Driven Sampling (RDS) and Coupon Management software is helpful. 
  • Experience with multivariate regression analysis. 
  • Familiar with developing summary reports, conference abstracts and manuscripts. 
  • Experience working with marginalized communities.
  • Solid background in statistical principles, data analysis, data management and proficient computing skills required. 
  • Effective working knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills required. 
  • Qualified candidates will have strong motivation and work ethic, be quick to learn new computer programs, have excellent attention to detail, ability to manage multiple and competing priorities, and capability of working well in a team environment as well as independently.

  • Demonstrated experience working independently and ability to work well in an unstructured environment as well as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated experience with study population and/or other marginalized populations.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to interact with a variety of people.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and electronic communications.
  • Able to occasionally work flexible hours to accommodate protocol needs.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

 

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
