Research Data Analyst

The Health Behavior and Society department is seeking a Research Data Analyst. The Research Data Analyst will provide research support for several studies, including a longitudinal study among people who inject drugs in rural Appalachia, a qualitative study that examines syringe services program implementation in Indigenous communities, and a mixed methods exploration of public health vending machine implementation. The Research Data Analyst will work closely with the Principal Investigator and other research team members to support the conduct of the research and associated data analyses. The individual will help manage, analyze, interpret, and report study findings. Analyses are anticipated to result in presentations and manuscripts.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Data management including developing and implementing QA/QC procedures (including data checking and cleaning of data).
  • Merging data, creating and recoding variables to prepare data for analyses.
  • Analyzing qualitative and quantitative data using a variety of standard techniques and platforms.
  • Presenting and summarizing analyses in various formats including raw output, tables, and graphics, oral and written reports.
  • Participating in staff and analysis meetings.
  • Supporting study implementation and overall instrumentation.
  • Position may include participation in data collection.
  • Using standard computer software packages for analyzing data using a variety of standard statistical techniques (e.g. regression and longitudinal data analysis).
  • Proficiency in at least SAS or Stata for conducting quantitative data analyses.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills (without the use of AI).
  • Supporting IRB submissions.
  • Candidate must be detail oriented and able to work independently on assigned tasks.
  • Experience with substance use or HIV/STI research and writing research manuscripts is preferred.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Research Data Analyst experience.

Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
