Research Data Analyst

The Pathology Department is seeking a Research Data Analyst who will perform statistical analyses using large-scale, open access national surveys and administrative databases. This individual will also help manage and analyze laboratory, clinical, and socio-behavioral survey data provided by collaborators. In addition, this individual will have the opportunity to help with the design of experiments and epidemiologic studies, communicate findings, and be involved in publication efforts. The projects will involve study questions related to . The analyst will work closely with researchers at JHU. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and committed to a common mission, a team effort, and collaborations across academia.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Consults with clinical and laboratory investigators to determine their needs with respect to analysis of data in collaboration with a member of the faculty.

  • Carries out appropriate methodologic procedures for statistical analysis of data.

  • Prepares written reports of the statistical analyses.

  • Participates in regularly schedule meetings with study investigators and team.

  • Maintains appropriate systems for database associated management, including preparing codebooks, cleaning data, creating analytic data sets and performing quality assurance/quality control.

Specific Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, see and hear. May sit or stand for prolonged periods and occasionally required to walk. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, touch, feel, and type. May reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch. Prolonged vision requirements including viewing computer screen, paper reports/documents, charts and results.
  • Visual acuity is required to distinguish fine gradation of color or structure and closely examine specimens microscopically. Must possess manual dexterity sufficient to work with small instruments and delicate equipment.
  • Clinical laboratory environment - Exposure to toxins and infectious agents exist, but potential for personal injury or harm is minimized if established safety and health precautions are followed. Working in laboratory where there may be discomforts due to odors, noise, temperature fluctuations, and working around lab equipment.
  • May transport equipment and supplies usually less than 40 pounds from one area to another. May be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with proper training, or precautions/lifting aides.
  • In some areas workspace is confined; therefore, mobility may be difficult.
  • Staff may be required to complete annual competency review, and must ensure compliance with Hospital Policy, Laboratory Policy & Procedure, Health, Safety & Environment regulations, and all applicable privacy & confidentiality laws/practices.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, and accurate.



Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced proficiency in Python or R statistical programming.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Starting Salary Range: $48,000 - $84,100 Annually ($58,227 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
