Research Program Coordinator

Location - East Baltimore Campus, Baltimore Maryland


The division of Adolescent Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics is seeking 2 casual Research Program Coordinator (RPC) positions. The successful candidates will have oversight of operations of patient-facing decision support for HIV and sexually transmitted infection prevention in low-income and minority patient populations, funded by an AHRQ K01 grant. This program focuses on addressing barriers to making healthy decisions that are core to sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention among urban adolescents and young adults (AYA). Specifically, communicating with sex partners and health providers about STI testing, including for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), connecting to scientifically accurate STI/HIV informational resources that are culturally and linguistically appropriate, and utilizing the clinical services available to prevent new infections. Using a design thinking framework, we will a) Characterize AYA's use of electronic health record (EHR) patient portals and determine the correlates and patterns of longitudinal use; b) Build a patient-centered clinical decision support tool that leverages the EHR patient portal system to optimize patient engagement in STI/HIV prevention behaviors among urban AYA, and c) Pilot test the intervention among urban adolescents residing in an STI/HIV prevalent community. The RPC will work with the Principal Investigator to coordinate the aims of the project. The RPC will also support the coordination of activities with additional research and project staff such as work study and research students and other part-time research assistants.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Partner with study PI and collaborators in the planning and implementation of the project.
  • Participate in scientific discussions with PI and the research team.
  • Facilitate communication between research team and collaborators.


Development of Data Collection & Intervention Materials

  • Under supervision of the PI, draft sections of study protocols.
  • Drafts and finalizes consent forms for research participants with guidance from the PIs.
  • Schedules interviews and oversees survey administration as appropriate.
  • Draft and finalize participant recruitment scripts under the guidance of the PIs.
  • Identify and recruit primary care sites across the state for participation in the project.
  • Monitor achievement of recruitment goals and ensures appropriate, timely, and accurate documentation and data entry.
  • Help develop and closely monitor databases and other data collection tools that will be used during data collection and for data storage and management.


Data Synthesis & Analysis

  • Participate in planning, analysis and interpretation of data.
  • Synthesize and edit research findings and technical data.
  • Participate in the development and submission of scientific manuscripts, presentations, and technical reports to the funder.
  • Prepare data on project implementation and outcomes for presentation at professional meetings.
  • Assist research team in developing plans for disseminating project results.

  • Monitor project budgets and allocation of project resources.
  • Plan agendas and coordinate all project meetings.
  • Review, edit, distribute minutes from project meetings.
  • Assure project management tasks are completed (e.g., prioritize, timeliness, milestones, monitoring, status).
  • Participate in monthly oversight meeting with funding agency and prepares regular project updates.
  • Schedule introductory and follow up meetings with participating primary care sites and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare and update study protocols and reports for Institutional Review Board
  • Assist with grant writing under guidance of the PIs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
