Research Program Manager

We are seeking a bi-lingual (English-Spanish) Research Program Manager who will be responsible for the overall coordination and management of daily operations for health equity research projects with a focus on infectious diseases and migrant health. Significant duties are related to the management of grants and research. Funding for the position is secured by sponsored research studies.


The Research Program Manager will work under the supervision of a Sr. Research Program Manager and Principal Investigators (PIs): Kathleen Page, MD and Cui Yang PhD. The Research Manager will support a portfolio of external and internally funded-research grants related to health equity and infectious diseases. Will be responsible for project implementation, logistics planning, data management, quality assurance, and IRB and regulatory compliance. Will assist the PIs in preparing and submitting grant proposals and manuscripts and applications to the IRBs. Will also support the educational mission of the program, including the training and supervision of students and other trainees. Most projects are community engaged and involve Spanish-speaking Latinos. The Research Manager will interact with various stakeholders at meetings, committees, and other relevant venues. Some activities are conducted in the evenings and on weekends so work hours flexibility is required.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of research project planning, implementation, daily administration, and closeout of multiple research studies related to health equity and infectious diseases.
  • Create new protocols, consents, case report forms, operating procedures, timelines, IRB applications, bilingual recruitment materials, and other research-related documents.
  • Create and maintain multiple IRB accounts and investigator notebooks, report adverse events, comply with all regulatory and reporting requirements and adherence to GCP.
  • Liaison with the PIs, co-investigators, IRB staff, study monitors, study sponsors, research participants, community partners, and other stakeholders related to specific research projects.
  • Represents the PI in public health, community, and research efforts related to uninsured and vulnerable communities to ensure coordination and maximize impact.
  • Work closely and effectively with faculty, research assistants and trainees, providing timely feedback and recommendations for improvements.
  • Responsible for administrative, operational, functional, and security components related electronic research databases such as using Qualtrics or REDCap.
  • Work collaboratively with the data manager to compile and and transmit data within Hopkins and to grant monitoring agencies.
  • Support oversight of QI initiatives in the data.
  • Advise and assist investigators in conceptualizing data collection needs and translating these needs into collected data.
  • Perform limited data analysis (counts, mean, median, p-value). Coordinate with biostatistical consultants for more extensive data analysis.
  • May need to interact with research study participants. Perform screening, administer questionnaires, perform phlebotomy (if part of skill set), enter data into study-related databases, schedule study visits, and coordinate activities with study sponsors and partners.
  • Assist the PI with scientific writing and developing posters, journal articles, grant proposals, presentations and reports.
  • Promotes a culture of service for study participants, research staff, and collaborators.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work independently and effectively prioritize management of multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office and PowerPoint. MS Access and RedCap proficiency preferred or willing to be trained.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, and ability to work effectively with diverse partners and across roles.
  • Highly organized and systematic in work, with good attention to detail.
  • Flexibility and ability to work effectively in a team.



Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline. 
  • Five years related experience, including demonstrated supervisory or lead responsibilities.
  • Experience with clinical research sciences and regulatory affairs is required.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Spanish-English Bilingual Required.
