Research Specialist II
The Division of Cardiology is seeking a Research Specialist II for a laboratory investigating the role of candidate gene mutations in thrombosis and hemostasis. Under the general supervision of a faculty investigator the Research Specialist II will independently perform routine and esoteric assays in the investigation of the effect of various genetic mutations on thrombosis. The person in this position will be expected to organize and present data to the faculty investigator. Responsibilities also include contributing to the general maintenance of the laboratory, equipment, and supplies.

- Perform gene expression assays and assist in molecular cloning experiments.
- Maintain human endothelial and hepatocyte cell lines and execute cell-based assays and experiments.
- Perform standard protein assays to determine the effects of experimental manipulations on target protein levels.
- Assist in small animal model husbandry and experiments.
- Be familiar with basic laboratory techniques such as pipetting, buffer and reagent preparation, pH determination, qPCR, RT-qPCR, western blotting, ELISA spectrophotometric absorbance determination and fluorescence detection.
- Operate basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuge, pH meter, analytical balance, scintillation counter, light and/or fluorescence microscope, microplate reader, plate washer and biological safety cabinet.
- May also utilize sophisticated instrumentation, spectrophotometer, thermal cycler, flow cytometer, and laboratory automation solutions/robotics.
