General Description

Seeking a highly motivated, energetic individual with an interest in biomedical research to assist on animal- and cell culture-based studies of ischemic retinal diseases including diabetic retinopathy. The emphasis is especially on rat and mouse models of retinal disease, with complementary cell culture studies.


Duties and Responsibilities:


•Performing surgical procedures on the animals.

•Performing sophisticated analytical procedures, including electroretinograms (ERGs), use of the optokinetic reflex to assess vision, gavage, intra-peritoneal injections, and intravitreal injections.

•Conducting multiple approaches for molecular analysis, including immunohistochemistry and real-time PCR.

•Treating animals with various drug therapies over prolonged periods.

•Working with the Principal Investigator and Research Team to assist with design, carry out experiments, and interpret results.



Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in pharmacology, biology, chemistry, or related field. Minimum of one year of experience working with animals and cell culture. 

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.


Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree with related graduate research.
