Research Technolgist
The Liu lab in the Department of Biophysics and Biophysical Chemistry at SOM is seeking a Research Technologist, who will perform molecular cloning, cell culture, flow cytometry analysis and reporter gene assays following established protocols and procedures under the supervision of the Research Associate or the PI and contribute to general maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Work requires basic use of scientific methods, procedures and techniques gained through previous training and experience. Uses basic understanding of theory behind experiments and applies basic analytical skills to implement assigned projects, and to identify and trouble-shoot situations needing special attention.
- Follows established procedures or protocols and utilizes aseptic technique to perform laboratory tests and/or experiments.
- Perform molecular cloning.
- Perform cell culture and maintain HEK293, Hela and BHK-21 cell lines.
- Perform flow cytometry, including staining, data acquisition and analysis with FlowJo or similar software.
- Assists with reporter gene assays and electrophoretic separations.
- Maintains accurate, clear and detailed data records in hard copy and electronically.
- Communicate well and work with teams.
- Monitors inventory levels, orders materials and supplies through core stores in accordance with established policies and procedures, counts orders upon receipt and makes note in the excel file shared by the lab.

- Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:
- Knowledge of Windows computers and Microsoft Office applications.
Specific Physical Requirements
- Occasionally required to traverse throughout the laboratory or to other locations on campus to conduct experiments.
- The employee is required to operate computer keyboard, laboratory instruments, and small laboratory tools such as pipettes and/or glassware.
- Exposure to toxins and chemicals exists, but potential for personal injury or harm is minimized if established safety and health precautions are followed.
- Able to read and understand all Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) guidelines applicable to assigned work areas.
- Use of personal protective equipment may be advised or required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software required.

Starting Salary Range: $15.70 - $26.25 HRLY ($17,000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
