Research Technologist
The Johns Hopkins University Department of Genetic Medicine is seeking a Research Technologist who will work with a team that includes other technicians, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. Under the general supervision of a faculty investigator and other laboratory members, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing experiments and analysis. Work requires the basic use of scientific methods and procedures and techniques gained through previous training and experience. The position requires a basic understanding of the theory behind experiments and the application of analytical skills to implement assigned projects, and to identify and trouble-shoot situations needing special attention. The successful applicant must have the ability to work well with a team of lab scientists as well as independently.
Special Duties & Responsibilities
- Independently perform routine research testing and contribute to the general maintenance of the lab, supplies and equipment.
- Use basic science knowledge to learn and apply techniques/methods of the lab.
- Perform laboratory experiments by following common protocols or with instruction; may require techniques associated with molecular biology.
- May be responsible for tissue bank inventory and management.
- Operate basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuge, pH meter, analytical balance, spectrophotometer, light microscope, and utilizes laminar flow hood
- Operate lab computers for data entry and extraction.
- Utilize in vivo models in experiments following experimental protocols, monitor animals and maintain health records in accordance with USDA and AALAC guidelines.
- Clip and tag mice for genotyping, sacrifices and dissect animal remains as required.
- Prepare tissue for study utilizing histochemical techniques.
- Maintain accurate data records.
- Prepare solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
- Monitor inventory levels, orders material and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures, counts orders upon receipt.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Some related post-undergraduate work experience.

Starting Salary Range: $15.70 - $26.25 HRLY ($43,680 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
