Research Technologist

The Holland Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated incumbent to assist in the studying of the molecular mechanisms that control accurate chromosome distribution as a Research Technologist. Our work utilizes a combination of chemical biology, biochemistry, cell biology and genetically engineered mice to study pathways involved in mitosis and their effect on cell and organism physiology. A major focus of the group is to develop cell and animal-based models to study the role of cell division defects in genome instability and tumorigenesis. We seek a research technologist to assist with projects using mouse models and to provide general support to the laboratory. Specific Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for designing, executing, and interpreting experimental data while under the general supervision of a faculty investigator.
  • Using mouse models to study the role of cell division defects in genome instability and tumorigenesis.
  • Perform laboratory tasks and complete routine assays following common or established protocols and procedures.
  • Work requires basic use of scientific methods, procedures and techniques gained through previous training and experience. Uses basic understanding of theory behind experiments and applies basic analytical skills to implement assigned projects, and to identify and trouble-shoot situations needing special attention.
  • Follows established procedures or protocols and utilizes aseptic technique to perform laboratory tests and/or experiments.
  • Ensures the laboratory and equipment are functioning properly, which may include monitoring inventory levels, orders materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures while under the supervisor of a faculty investigator.
  • Performs miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory): 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A strong record of undergraduate research experience working with mouse models.

Starting Salary Range: $15.00 - $20.00/hr (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
