Research Technologist

The Biology Department is seeking a Research Technologist who will have two main responsibilities: research technologist (80%) and lab management (20%). This individual will set up and perform experiments studying gene regulation in the fly retina. They will also generate mutants using CRISPR and analyze changes in gene expression.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Research Technologist Responsibilities include Fly Genetics.
  • Performing RNA and DNA in situ hybridization.
  • Immunostaining.
  • Confocal microscopy.
  • Preparing stock solutions, buffers and media.
  • Generating recombinant DNA constructs data analysis.
  • Attending and presenting data in lab meetings.
  • Work with PI and other lab members to write a manuscript.


Lab Management Responsibilities include

  • Ordering consumables and maintaining records/inventory.
  • Managing supplies.
  • Upholding safety regulations.
  • Maintaining fruit fly stocks.
  • Manage website.


Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Expertise in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Illustrator, Photoshop.
  • Excellent organizational skills.


*We are looking for a candidate who will make at least a two-year commitment.



Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field


Preferred Qualifications
  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with molecular biology, fly genetics, cell culture and/or DNA/protein molecular biology software is strongly preferred.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
