Research Technologist
The Johns Hopkins University Kreiger School of Arts & Sciences (KSAS) seeks a full-time Research Technologist within the Biology Department for the Treck Lab. The research technologist will work closely under the supervision of the principal investigator to perform a variety of laboratory duties and research activities in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and data analysis.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Will use Cell Biology approaches to grow and maintain mammalian and Drosophila cell cultures to perform measurements of mRNA enrichment in fixed and live cells.
- Will create recombinant DNA using Molecular biology tools such as PCR, DNA and RNA purifications and cloning
- Maintain and wash glassware, autoclaving, sterilize pipettes, sorting pipettes, basic lab setup and organization, lab clean-up and other routine laboratory duties.
- Ordering supplies, consumables and equipment and managing deliveries.
- Prepare fly food plates for lab and others within the department that require it.
- Will perform fly husbandry to raise and handle Drosophila genetic crosses and maintain fly stocks.

- Ability to exercise professional judgment, excellent written and oral communication skills are desired.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
- Able to work in an active, high performing, multi-tasking environment.
- Machines and/or equipment used on the job: Materials, machines and/or equipment used on the job include E. coli liquid culture, tissue culture, autoclaves, thermocyclers, balances, pH meters, centrifuges, electrophoresis system, fly pushing stations equipped with CO2 tanks, dissecting microscopes, compound microscopes and epifluorescence microscopes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
- Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.
- Some undergraduate laboratory experience.

Starting Salary Range: $15.70 - $21.00 - $26.25 HRLY (Commensurate w/exp.)
