School Vision Advocate

We are seeking a School Vision Advocate (SVA) who will be hired by the Vision for Baltimore project to support elementary and middle schools in providing vision care to students and encouraging the use of glasses by students.

The SVA will be assigned 15-20 schools, which they will work with throughout the school year. They will be responsible for making contact with the school, building relationships with the administration, staff and parents at the school. The SVA will also be responsible for training and overseeing the parent volunteers at each school. They will collect the data in each school about students’ use of their prescribed glasses.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • There are several different components to this project, which include,

  • Help schools be prepared for the visits by the Health Department and Vision to Learn. The SVA will be crucial during the collection of consents for vision exams from parents; this will require calling parents, talking to parents before and after school to ensure that parents receive, understand and respond to the consent form.
  • Assist the school with monitoring and troubleshooting any issues that arise related to the glasses, including identifying students that may need glasses replaced as well as fitting and repairing glasses.

Minimum Qualifications
