Sightline is seeking a Sightline Security Team Sr. Software Engineer who will take a leading role in the management and enhancement of security protocols within our Workday environment. This role requires an extensive knowledge of ERP (preferably Workday) security configuration and data protection practices. The ideal candidate will mentor junior team members, collaborate across departments, and contribute to strategic security initiatives.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaboration: Partner with Sightline and business teams in both the Health System and the University, internal audit and compliance teams in the management of Workday security settings.
  • Training and Awareness: Support training and support to employees regarding Workday security best practices and protocols to promote a culture of security awareness.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a culture of security awareness and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Incident Response: Leads participation in the investigation and resolution of security incidents involving Workday and coordinate with relevant teams to mitigate risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Risk Management: Participate in regular security assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and recommend enhancements to strengthen security posture.
  • Security Leadership: Lead the administration of Workday security settings, including user roles, permissions, and access controls to ensure appropriate access to sensitive data.


Specific Devices, Software, Projects 

  • Workday’s suite of applications will be the focus of this position.


Scale/size of Area, Project and/or System Supported 

  • Works in a highly complex 70+ server environment supporting Johns Hopkins Enterprise Employee Resource Planning (ERP) solutions.
  • Workday software is an integrated development solution incorporating JH’s key business functions of Human Resources (Payroll, Benefits), Materials Management (Purchasing, and Inventory Management), Grants/Funds Management, Finance and Accounting.
  • The Workday system will support over 60,000 users with the HCM module through payroll and benefits.
  • Workday will interface to over 450+ other internal and external systems including student services, banks, benefit providers, clinical applications, and e-commerce hubs to support the daily functions of the university and health system organizations.


On-call Requirements

  • May be required during specific time periods during the implementation and go-live of the Workday environment.


Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Deep understanding of Workday or similar HR/Financial systems security architecture, user provisioning, and role-based access control.
  • Knowledge of best practices in information security.
  • Experience in participating in security audits, risk assessments, and incident response.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.


Additional Information

  • The work hours will primarily be regular day shift office hours. However, there may be times when employees are required to work off hours to respond to project inquiries, adhere to project deadlines and meet the overall needs of a 24/7 health system/university.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Six years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in security management, preferably with a focus on Workday or similar HR/Financial systems.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with the full life cycle of software development projects (analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance).
  • Workday certification in Security.
  • Familiarity with Workday Security functionality.
  • Kainos experience.

This salary range does not include all components of the Sightline compensation program.  This position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.  Therefore, the actual compensation paid to the selected candidate may vary slightly from the salary range stated herein.  For more information, please contact the hiring department.


Total Rewards
The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
