Software Engineer

The Department of Neurology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine is seeking a Software Engineer. The successful candidate will work with a lead systems engineer and faculty leaders to develop and implement a next generation database with a web-based interface for the Johns Hopkins Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (JHADRC). The envisioned database is an Azure SQL Managed Instance.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will partner in the database design and implementation and lead in the design, development and implementation of the web interface, cloud computing Azure Web App built using C#/.NET Core, and graphical user interface.
  • This effort is envisioned for approximately a one-year timeframe: Thereafter, the position will transition to continuing support and development of the JHADRC database system as well as collaboration with partners—for example, the Department of Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health—in projects requiring data science support and software engineering expertise. In the long term, the successful candidate will be required to achieve and maintain long-term funding via internal and external collaborations.
  • The position will require collaboration with multiple researchers, and funding will be provided via a combination of funded grants and strategic investments.

 

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor's Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or Information Technology. 
  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of related work experience with computer systems and applications.
  • Two years of related work experience developing ASP.NET MVC web applications.
  • Knowledge of, and demonstrable experience, with Microsoft SQL Server (including T-SQL, views, stored procedures, user defined functions, etc.), Microsoft .NET (ASP.NET, C#, ASP.NET MVC, Web API), Angular, HTML/JavaScript/CSS, Bootstrap.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.*

 

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience with handling sensitive HIPAA protected data.
  • Experience with handling clinical trial data in a research setting.
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages such as R, C++, Python, JAVA
  • Experience in writing and distributing software applications.
  • 2 years’ experience working on Microsoft.NET (ASP.NET, C#, ASP.NET MVC, Web API), Angular.

Starting Salary Range: $69,830 - $95,960 annually (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
