Sr Research Program Coordinator

The Program on Implementation and Equity Research (PIER) within the Center for Public Health and Human Rights in the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health is looking for a highly motivated, proactive, organized, and diplomatic Sr. Research Program Coordinator I to oversee the implementation of key projects, primarily coordinating the Better Info for PrEP research project while supporting other associated research projects across the portfolio, including Path To Scale and projects across sub-Saharan Africa.


Better Info for PrEP is a five-year research project (PI: Sheree Schwartz) with an overall goal to understand PrEP user choices, preferences around re-engagement strategies and implementation impact of the roll-out of long-acting injectable (LAI) PrEP alongside oral PrEP among women in Malawi. The coordinator will specifically support JHSPH colleagues for Aim 2 of the study (assessing decision-making among injectable and oral PrEP users and providers, as well as preferences for implementation delivery and support), while monitoring and ensuring the quality and timely completion of all project activities.


The Sr. Research Program Coordinator I will be based in Baltimore, MD and responsible for liaising across the team, working with students, JHU faculty and staff to complete the following:


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Project Coordination

  • Develop project coordination plans and timelines with key milestones, proposal and standard operating procedures. Closely monitor adherence to these plans to ensure milestones and deliverables are met by coordinating with multiple faculty members from Johns Hopkins, as well as with implementing partners and community-based organizations.
  • Work closely with the Blantyre-based KUHeS-JHP Malawi Study Coordinator to oversee data collection and support quantitative analyses.
  • Manage multiple priorities across project aims and various projects, including the scientific and administrative design and implementation of projects.
  • Proactively build relationships with the project team, contractors, and other related personnel and partners, including cross-sector, interagency, and community-based organizations and networks.
  • Provide coordination of projects through a high level of organization, accuracy, interpersonal and communication skills sensitive to the needs of project sponsors, host institution and partner organizations.
  • Lead and facilitate the monthly coordination of community partnership council (CPC), including maintaining communication platforms (e.g., WhatsApp) and review of developed outputs for dissemination to the community advisory board (CAB) on an at-least quarterly basis.
  • Lead recruiting, interviewing, training, monitoring and mentoring/supervision of project interns and students. Specifically, developing all job descriptions, initiating HR process reviews, and marketing descriptions across identified university platforms.
  • Travel and provide support and monitoring to the field site.


Research Protocol Implementation

  • Coordinate team engagement and contribute to the development of research plans and study instruments (i.e., protocol development for qualitative interviews with PrEP engagement outcomes among healthcare providers/implementing partners) for submission to the Johns Hopkins University IRB office and local country offices. Monitor IRB applications and manage IRB-related study communication. As part of the study team, develop research plan protocols.
  • Develop study projections in alignment with study protocols and implementation schedules/timelines; reach concurrence with all sub-grantees, CPC, and CAB—as appropriate.


Grant Preparation/Submissions and Monitoring

  • Collaborate with financial staff in the preparation and tracking of activity budgets and subcontracts.
  • Develop study budgets with the Principal Investigator and monitor budget expenditures; engage in quarterly budget meetings with the Principal Investigator and contribute to discussions about effort matrixes and budgetary decisions.
  • Provide support for grant development and submissions in response to requests for proposals from federal and international funding mechanisms, including pre-award submissions and coordination of budgetary and financial elements, scientific and non-scientific elements, and partner/collaborator documents.


Data Synthesis and Analysis

  • Support systematic reviews across projects/proposals (i.e., lead/co-lead systematic reviews, database development and management using Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) and Covidence/PICO Portal, liaising closely with informationists to refine search strategies and routinely update review protocols).
  • Potential for additional engagement in data analyses (and associated activities) as approved by the Principal Investigator— quantitative and/or qualitative.


Dissemination

  • Outline plans for dissemination for project deliverables.
  • Draft and prepare annual and quarterly program reports and work plans, including but not limited to the funding agency’s requirements; serve as a liaison with JHSPH and external funders and partners.
  • Develop materials for workshops to support participatory activities (i.e., to interpret study data; define critical design challenges to re-engagement and sustainment supports; and co-create solutions to the challenges), including generation of participant forms, presentations, associated worksheets, and workshop evaluation materials.
  • Lead and contribute to the writing/development of reports, fact sheets, conference abstracts and peer-reviewed manuscripts, including conducting literature review(s), formatting references, and preparing products for submission.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations both internal and external to the team.
  • Prepare other dissemination products as needed.


Administrative

  • Complete all appropriate compliance trainings.
  • Identify and implement improvements to project efficiencies (i.e., better and faster ways to accomplish tasks, as well as opportunities for reducing costs).
  • Organize project meetings, conferences, seminars, and events.
  • Participate in calls with collaborators and assist with notetaking; proactively engaging in follow-up activities.
  • Assist with other projects as requested.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Epidemiology or related field/discipline (Public Health; Program Management; Business).


Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills, including proactiveness and timely responsiveness are necessary.
  • Strong organizational skills are necessary.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Demonstrated self-management with the ability to work on multiple tasks with short and/or competing deadlines is necessary.
  • Comfort engaging with a diverse team on projects related to human rights, historically marginalized populations, and sexual and gender diverse communities.
  • Prior collaborative research experience is desired.
  • Experience working and collaborating with multi-disciplinary partners, implementing partners, and/or healthcare providers is desired.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement.
  • Experience in scientific computing/programming and STATA, R, MPlus, or SAS is a plus.
  • Implementation science expertise preferred.
  • Experience in qualitative research and/or human centered design highly valuable.
  • Ability to work across cultures.

Education and Experience Equivalency
