Sr Wellness Specialist

We are seeking a Sr. Wellness Specialist in HR Benefits who will play a pivotal role in developing and managing comprehensive wellness programs, with a particular focus on health plan analysis and integration. This position involves collaborating with various departments to align wellness initiatives with the organization's goals and to integrate them seamlessly with existing health benefits programs.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Wellness Program Development

  • Develop, implement, and continually refine a strategic wellness program that encompasses physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices to enhance and adapt wellness initiatives.


Health Plan Analysis

  • Analyze existing health plans to identify opportunities for improvement and cost-effective enhancements.
  • Collaborate with benefits and insurance providers to assess plan effectiveness and recommend adjustments.


Program Implementation

  • Coordinate the rollout of wellness programs, ensuring effective communication and seamless integration with health benefits offerings.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to embed wellness initiatives into the fabric of HR and benefits programs.


Health Education and Promotion

  • Conduct educational sessions, workshops, and training to inform employees about health plan options and wellness resources.
  • Advocate for healthy lifestyle choices and provide resources to support employee well-being.


Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Utilize data analytics to measure the success and impact of wellness programs, with a specific focus on health plan utilization and outcomes.
  • Prepare regular reports for management, highlighting key trends in health plan participation and effectiveness.


Benefits Integration

  • Work closely with the benefits team to seamlessly integrate wellness initiatives into health benefits packages.
  • Collaborate on designing incentives and recognition programs to encourage participation in both wellness and health benefits activities.


Employee Engagement

  • Foster a culture of well-being by engaging employees through surveys, feedback sessions, and focus groups.
  • Develop strategies to enhance employee participation in wellness initiatives and utilization of health plans.


Vendor Management

  • Evaluate and manage relationships with external wellness and benefits vendors, ensuring their services align with organizational goals.
  • Negotiate contracts and monitor vendor performance, especially in relation to health plan services.


Policy Development

  • Contribute to the development and refinement of HR policies related to wellness and health benefits, ensuring compliance with regulations and industry standards.


Budget Management

  • Develop and manage the budget for wellness programs, including health plan enhancements, ensuring cost-effectiveness and a positive return on investment.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Two years benefits of customer service-related experience required. Three years preferred.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree or relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Wellness Practitioner).
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing successful wellness programs within a corporate setting, with a focus on health plan analysis and integration.
  • Strong understanding of employee benefits, health insurance, and how wellness initiatives integrate with overall benefits packages.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Analytical skills to assess program and health plan effectiveness and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices in wellness and benefits.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
