Sr. Biostatistician

Sr. Biostatistician position within the Outcomes after Critical Illness and Surgery (OACIS) group, within the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Department of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.


Primary responsibility will be implementing best practices of data management, provide study design, and analytic leadership for various complex projects and secondary analyses for publications, presentations and grant submissions. This position will routinely interact with a multidisciplinary team. Must have ability to manage multi-project workload, both development and maintenance. Depending on the task and project involved the position may be expected to lead, work as part of a team, or work individually to complete the work as necessary.



Essential Job Functions:


o Conduct complex statistical and epidemiological analyses of data from multi-site, observational epidemiologic studies and randomized trials of mechanically ventilated, intensive care unit patients

o Collaborate with investigators, with primary responsibility for data analysis and presentation

o Design and implement statistical analysis plans.

o Organize and prepare reports including publication-ready tables and figures.

o Manage computerized systems and data for analysis of complex research projects to prepare scientific presentations related to study results.

o Develop prototype code for a highly collaborative environment and assist with training students, research staff and junior data analysts.

o Participate in regular working group meetings, manage and organize data; develop and implement novel analytic methods, when appropriate, in collaboration with faculty members in the Department of Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

o Exercise a positive attitude, good judgment, tact, and sensitivity in all interpersonal interactions.

o Proactively seek to improve or optimize work flow and discuss with supervisor as appropriate.

o Able to effectively prioritize and work on multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management skills and efficiency.

o Prepares weekly report of work hours and activities for review by supervisor

o Demonstrates and serves as a role model for a positive work environment, including high motivation, positive attitude, and good judgment, tact, and sensitivity in all interpersonal interactions with all research staff, investigators and students.

Experience:

Excellent programming skills in Stata, SAS, R, or equivalent statistical package. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational skills. Prior collaborative research experience and proven ability to work independently required. Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, or related quantitativefield, with PhD preferred
  • Three years related experience
  • Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula


  • Preferred Qualifications

    PhD preferred. Familiarity with psychometrics, regression analysis, survival analysis, longitudinal data analysis, and causal inference is desirable.
