Sr. Financial Analyst

Working on the SOM central finance team, we are seeking a Sr. Financial Analyst who will manage the financial review aspects of position creation and reclassification for positions across the School of Medicine and works with appropriate HR and Compensation team contacts to evaluate and manage all position creation actions. The role will provide regular personnel reports to SOM and JHU leadership, including FTE and funding data pulled directly from source data (ERP).


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Coordinates

  • Works with appropriate HR-Compensation team contacts to assess new position creation requests related to staff actions.
  • Monitors vacancy and budget and conducts what-if scenarios, planning, and other analyses to determine approvals related to both staff and faculty actions.
  • Acts as the coordinator and data/process manager for the hiring review committee in the School of Medicine, including managing the online request system.


Applies

  • Applies knowledge of the review process and the current situation of vacancies and budget to help inform the review and approval process for staff positions.


Creates/Prepares/Develops

  • Reviews position management process and ensures it is operating effectively and efficiently.


Analyzes/Interprets

  • Conducts long-range plans, 'what-if' scenarios, school and department level variances to budget and other analyses, as requested.


Manages

  • Collaborates with appropriate points of contact to manage the review and approval process for positions.


Problem Solving

  • Works with HR-Compensation colleagues, to review appropriate internal reporting and data to evaluate and determine what needs to be approved and communicates why certain positions, compensation, or bonuses were not approved.


Thinking Critically

  • Leverages knowledge on the review process and the current situation of vacancies and budget will help inform decisions regarding position approvals.
  • Provides clear and timely communication of findings of analyses to members of the hiring review committee, SOM leadership and department representatives.


Trains

  • Keep department directors, administrators, and staff informed on their participation in the position process and any potential changes.


Collaborates

  • Partner with Director, Dean's Office, Executive Directors for Faculty Practice, Research Finance, Sr. Director for SOM Reporting, SOM department administrators, and staff; FP&A colleagues; Financial Operations colleagues; Faculty Practice Colleagues; Research Colleagues; University Budget; University Controller; JHHS/JHM Financial Colleagues, HR-Compensation, departmental HR Business Partners.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or a related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible financial and business operations experience, preferably in a large and complex organization.
  • Proven communication, organizational, and analytic skills in a complex organization.
  • Ability to analyze data for budgeting, operations, auditing, accounts receivable, and reserve analysis.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of JHU and JHSOM financial structure, processes, and practices.
  • Experience in an academic medical center environment, specifically with clinical department business operations.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination.
