Sr. Financial Analyst

We are seeking a Sr. Financial Analyst who will manage and process financial transactions involving clinical, joint agreement funds, general funds, and gift and discretionary accounts for the Department of Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine. Assists in the development of the annual divisional budgets and projections for half of the department’s divisions and fellowship programs. Responsible for overseeing established budgets by overseeing loading of budget, reconciling budget information and changes, and extracting and analyzing financial data to manage financials of division. Generates monthly financial reports and monitors revenues and expenditures for various business lines, including, but not limited to clinical funds, designated and discretionary funds, affiliated institution funds and general funds against divisional budget. Performs comprehensive financial analysis relating to business to improve divisional financial effectiveness and complies with JHU, JHH and/or agency regulations and restrictions.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain broad understanding of the financial positions/conditions of the various divisions throughout the department
  • Perform complex financial analysis to assist management in establishing financial goals and objectives.
  • Extract financial data from various accounting and information systems and prepare quarterly divisional financial reports and monthly reports for leadership team.
  • Interpret data to determine fiscal year performance and project future financial trends. Analyze and interpret fiscal patterns to project future expenditures and revenue streams.
  • Presents quarterly financial reports to assigned Divisional Chiefs.
  • Monitor and approve departmental expenditures, as assigned, throughout the fiscal year (and in respect to processing deadlines), with both authority and confidence to filter appropriate expenses. Verify funds availability and adherence to both Department and University policies. This includes SAP, Concur, PCARD, and Petty Cash
  • As necessary, ensure monthly financial transactions are processed and posted. Includes, but is not limited to, KB15N's, journal entries and cost transfers for both JHU and JHH (as applicable).
  • Be knowledgeable to review and approve travel reimbursements, online payments, payroll/non-payroll cost transfers, and check deposits,
  • Regularly meets with and serves as a go-to finance resource for divisional staff
  • Assist with creating new and maintaining existing Faculty and Clinical Associates Compensation Plans. Perform monthly salary reconciliations to ensure salaries are being charged and allocated properly. Review Control Salary and mitigate any potential overpayments.
  • Assist in the monthly close out process. Perform monthly reconciliations on accounts to ensure all revenue and expenses are charging properly.
  • Maintain department SAP roles and access rights as required. Initiate new IO and Cost Center requests, new vendor requests and other SAP maintenance functions as required.
  • Assimilates information from various sources to draw conclusions, to effect change in processes, procedures, and reporting, and/or theorize downstream impacts.
  • Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts and draws conclusions with direction (as necessary from others). Must be able to independently interpret technical and detailed guidelines, policies and procedures, as well as explain or describe moderately complex information and presentation materials.
  • Identifies weak or non-existent administrative processes and works with leadership to develop corrective action plans. Performs financial analysis and reviews procedures and systems to determine appropriate solutions.
  • Works to automate and streamline reconciliations, workbooks, and other reports.
  • Post automation and successful completion of independently leading divisional tasks will work with departmental leaders for higher level financial projects that can improve reporting quality or identify performance improvement.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field.
  • Five years progressively responsible related financial/accounting experience.
  • Additional education (master's in a related field) may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
