Sr. Grants & Contracts Analyst
The Department of Neurology is seeking a Sr. Grants & Contracts Analyst to join the PreAward team. This person will coordinate with the Grants & Contracts Manager regarding activities related to sponsored project pre-award within the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery. This position reports directly to the Grants and Contracts Manager.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide professional level sponsored projects management specifically for pre-award functions that include, but may not be limited to: proposal preparation, proposal review and submission, budget development, account maintenance and oversight, reporting, compliance and training.
- Work independently on a variety of grants/contracts that range from simple to highly complex. The primary goal of this position is to ensure timely, effective and efficient submissions of sponsored funding requests.
- Serve as lead/supervisory position providing guidance and learning support to the Grants & Contracts Analysts within the pre-award team.
- Provide guidance to the analysts and administrative staff within the department.
- Works independently on a variety of complex level grants/contracts, including those from NIH, NSF, DOD and various foundations. These grants, contracts and awards may involve highly detailed budgets, multiple projects, Cores and Subawards, Investigator-initiated, Consortium, Dept. of Defense grants, higher complexity Foundation grants and pharmaceutical company clinical trials.
- Collaborate with the Grants and Contracts Manager on the development of financial/administrative aspects of proposal submissions policies for the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery.
- Serve as a point person for faculty and staff questions in the absence of the Grants and Contracts Manager.
- Review and approve all grant submissions in the absence of the Grants and Contracts Manager.
- Ensure that all of the proper information/documentation is uploaded into COEUS.
- Prepare and review grant and contract proposals and provide guidance to the PI in the interpretation and implications of applicable grants terms and conditions.
- Work with the Office of Research Administration (ORA) and external funding agencies to process grants and contract applications.
- Work directly with the application’s Principal Investigator, Co-Investigator and administrative staff to ensure effective, accurate and timely grant proposal development.
- Act as a final point of contact with department faculty and/or divisional staff toward the planning and development of budgets for submission with grant packages to various federal offices, private agencies/foundation and commercial agencies.
- Compare budget detail to budget justification for consistency and accuracy.
- Review budget justification for appropriateness and completeness of content.
- Verify applications are in compliance with sponsoring organization’s guidelines, as well as with relevant University policies and procedures.
- Assist Principal Investigators in completion of required information for grant proposals.
- Coordinate submission of large-multi-center proposals, ensuring that they are in compliance with the sponsor’s requirements.
- Responsible for tracking grant/contract proposals and other documentation through the signature/approval processes.
- Assure that appropriate human subject compliance training has been completed by key personnel.
- Work with subaward/subcontract organizations to ensure that the information/documents provided for submissions are accurate and in compliance with the sponsor’s guidelines.
- Coordinate submission of all proposals ensuring that all applicable direct and indirect cost rate have been applied.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Four years of related experience in sponsored research and/or financialpositions, preferably in an academic or medical setting.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of external federal guidelines/procedures for grants and contracts, including NIH, NSF and DOD.

Starting Salary Range: $62,900 - $110,100 Annually ($86,500 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
