Sr. Research Assistant

We are seeking a Sr. Research Assistant who will join our team of physicians, scientists, and laboratory technicians for bladder exstrophy-epispadias research in the division of Pediatric Urology. The position is crucial for the success of several ongoing and upcoming clinical research projects and will work with the Principal Investigator (PI) and other study coordinator(s) to organize and conduct research.


The Sr. Research Assistant will be responsible for maintaining and updating a large REDCap database, IRB proposal and submissions, data analysis, maintain organized records of studies, and communicate regularly with the PI and study team. This position will play a vital role in writing and submitting manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and submitting and presenting work for national and international conferences.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform data management, statistical programming and data analysis. Understand the importance/impact of data integrity in terms of patients, study results, costs, quality of service and scientific research in general.
  • Oversee day-to-day activities of support staff on study.
  • Train new staff at single and/or multi-clinic sites.
  • Develop consent form(s) for clinical trials from protocol(s).
  • Prepare materials for IRB to include completing progress reports, adverse event forms, changes in research.
  • Design and set-up standard operating procedures for one or more studies.
  • Participate in developing study budget.
  • Interact regularly with members of the research team/study to provide appropriate statistical input in the design, execution and analysis of studies. Regular contact with physicians, other health care personnel and occasionally, patients, requires the use of good judgment, tact and sensitivity.
  • Participation in many aspects of publications including data set preparation, data validation, implementation of analytic plans, report generation, and written and oral presentations.
  • Assist with composing and submitting manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication of research.
  • Prepare and present research for national and international conferences.
  • Adhere to guidelines regarding honest reporting of sensitive and confidential patient information.
  • Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

  • Proficiency in the use of software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Has excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Has strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once, and effectively prioritize each.
  • Has basic knowledge of medical terminology.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk or sit for an extended period of time.



Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
  • Two years of related experience.


*Additional graduate level education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


**JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
