Sr. Research Data Analyst

We are a research group in the Departments of Mental Health and Epidemiology, focused on longitudinal studies of health and mental health, and the role of stressors in cognitive decline at midlife and beyond.  We collect primary data from multiple sources, including interview surveys, cognitive assessments, sleep measurements, and biologic samples.  We are seeking a Sr. Research Data Analyst to lead the development of data structures for storing and accessing longitudinal databases, to oversee the preparation of cleaned analytic databases that incorporate data from multiple sources including prior survey and biologic data, and to perform data analyses on multiple complex studies.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead data management activities across multiple studies in collaboration with investigators, field management, data preparation/quality control lead, and data analysts. 
  • Develop overarching data storage and access structure for existing and future databases in accordance with internal research needs as well as NIH requirements for public use datasets;
  • Develop a separate, protected storage and access structure for participant contact information and tracking of study progress in REDCap;
  • Apply highest ethical and university standards for safeguarding personal identification information of study participants and any other identifiable data;
  • Plan, execute, and track data management tasks in accordance with project timelines;
  • Develop reports to track the progress of field activities and a mechanism for field management to run the reports;
  • Process data from wearable accelerometers into usable datasets under supervision of a lead statistician;
  • Oversee data cleaning, including identifying potential problems with study data and collaborating with quality control staff on problem resolution;
  • Lead the creation of cleaned data sets, including addition of variable labels and value descriptions; creation of summary variables; merging, creating, and recoding variables to prepare data for analyses; and compiling data from various sources into analytic data sets;
  • Create tables and figures in publication-quality form summarizing the results of statistical analyses as requested by investigators;
  • Contribute to preparation of progress reports for funding agencies;
  • Write detailed documentation/specifications for analysis data sets and related files;
  • Attend staff meetings and provide updates on status of projects.


Additional Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Mastery of SAS and R required.
  • Familiarity with REDCap
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, including organizing and investigating possible solutions and presenting them to the team for discussion.
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills in the preparation and presentation of results.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with investigators and a “team-oriented” approach with other staff members and investigators.
  • Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) proficiency.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in related discipline. Typically require PhD.
  • One-year related experience. Require highly specialized advanced knowledge, education and/or training in a specialized field of study to conduct research.
  • Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior work experience with studies collecting epidemiologic and survey data; familiarity with relational databases.
  • Knowledge of SQL a plus.
  • STATA programming proficiency desirable.

Starting Salary Range: Min $55,200 - Max $96,600 Annually ($72,930 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination.
