Sr. Research Program Coordinator

General Summary/Purpose

We are currently seeking a Senior Research Program Coordinator to oversee the data collection of a field based cohort study examining the impact of a comprehensive community level intervention on cis-gender female sex workers HIV/STI risk in Baltimore City. The interventions main component is a drop-in center in South Baltimore. 400 participants were recruited between Sept 2017 and January 2019. Remaining data collection consists of follow up visits at 6, 12, and 18 months. The incumbent of this position is expected to start in May of 2019 and will be responsible for supervising and leading the retention of study participants.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor recruitment and follow up progress to ensure data collection is progressing in a timely manner.
  • Operating a 30ft RV, driving to various data collection locations throughout Baltimore City.
  • Locate participants through phone calls and social media, as well as home visits and outreach to stable contacts.
  • Manage and maintain IRB compliance and communication (amendments, adverse events, GCP, and progress reports).
  • Responsible for the hiring, training, and supervision of full and part time field staff (e.g., time sheets, scheduling, staff development etc.).
  • Interviewing study participants.
  • Leading field staff and management meetings to discuss the current state of data collection and future strategies for success.
  • Develop reports for biweekly meetings and required reporting.
  • Maintaining communication with P.I., Study Director, and other key management personnel.
  • Overseeing the hiring of new staff.
  • Coordinating payment of invoices related to RV maintenance and staff reimbursements.
  • Manage study datasets and databases, liaising with database developer to ensure data edits and database alterations are completed in a timely manner.
  • Order, monitor, and document the distribution of prepaid debit cards for study participation.
  • Conduct bi-weekly audits and QA/QC checks of study data to ensure quality.
  • Represent the study and communicate with relevant community groups and stakeholders.
  • Create monthly field staff schedules.


Additional duties:

  • Conduct HIV testing and post-test counseling.
  • Instruct participant to self-collect biological specimens for sexual health screenings.
  • Order and maintain supplies for the office and RV.
  • General Van Maintenance (cleaning, filling propane, water, and gas etc.).
  • Data entry as needed.
  • Leading and contributing to academic paper writing and conference presentations.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
  • Three (3) years related experience.


Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula:  18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.  For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience conducting outreach and field work with diverse populations (LGBTQ, people involved in the street economy etc.).
  • Familiarity and experience utilizing a harm reduction philosophy
  • Experience with data collection, entry and management.
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation preferred.
  • Experience in community-based research.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work effectively both in a team and independently.
  • Comfortable working with marginalized populations in an outreach-setting.

Starting Salary Range: $38, 536 - $52, 989 / Commensurate with Experience

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30a- 5:00p/ 37.5 hrs per wk with frequent evenings, weekends and domestic travel required.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
