Sr. Research Program Coordinator

General Summary/Purpose:

 

The Johns Hopkins University Global mHealth Initiative (JHU-GmI) is a University-wide Community of Excellence, housed in the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH). JHU-GmI connects faculty, students, and staff in interdisciplinary collaborations in the field of digital health. Our work spans the development of and research in mobile and wireless technologies for patient and population health. JHU-GmI’s mission is to develop responsive innovations and provide rigorous, evidence-based support for mobile information and communication technologies (ICTs) to improve global health. JHU-GmI faculty focus on resource-limited settings where the burden of disease and mortality are the highest. Our access to large field research sites enables real-world validation and evaluation of digital health technologies. We have helped define the direction of the digital health field through our work in building standards, guidelines, and digital innovations and approaches that are widely used.

 

We are seeking a talented and motivated Research Program Coordinator to join our team and be a part of our ongoing projects and initiatives. The successful applicant will be an independent thinker that can collaborate across different teams and projects. They must have quantitative statistical experience and have experience using statistical analysis software packages. In this role, the Research Program Coordinator will work with JHU-GMI’s network of investigators and collaborators on projects that employ digital strategies to advance healthcare outcomes in the United States and globally.

 

This is a one-year position starting June 2021, with a possible extension for a second year. The position is currently remote, with the expectation that the candidate will relocate to the Baltimore, MD area when University restrictions around COVID-19 are lifted. Given the current travel restrictions, U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is a prerequisite.  

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • As a part of the GmI team, they will regularly contribute to and lead (where relevant) the development, management, analysis, and dissemination of a range of projects and their activities.
  • Responsible for several grants and research studies, including regular communication with country partners and donors, ethics board communication, and addressing day-to-day program needs.
  • Work with study PIs to design studies, develop research protocols and IRB applications, develop study budgets, conduct literature searches, collect data and conduct data analyses, summarize and write-up findings.
  • Conducting and tracking specific research activities to accomplish project goals.
  • Conducting quantitative data analysis using R, Stata, SAS, or another equivalent software package.
  • Developing program monitoring and evaluation framework and tools.
  • Identifying funding opportunities and author grants in response to calls for applications.
  • Organizing and participating in regularly scheduled meetings with study investigators and teams across multiple projects.
  • Supporting preparation of scientific presentations (with the opportunity to lead) and grant applications and development.
  • Supporting manuscript development, with opportunity to contribute as a lead and/or co-author on the manuscripts.
  • Collaborate with other study coordinators to support overall study implementation.
  • Occasionally mentor/supervise students and interns who are collaborating on the study.
  • Supporting development and management of GmI center activities, social media, and website.
  • Supporting development of new digital health coursework, including identification and coordination of sector experts and consultants.
  • Travelling internationally with Center leadership to conduct site visits. Maintain notes and develop reports on site visits and meeting collaborators.
  • Providing technical support to select international sites as needed.
  • Performing miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
  • 3 years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

 

JHU Equivalency Formula:  30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong proficiency and experience in R, Stata, SAS, and/or another equivalent software package.
  • Experience in research program coordination and implementation.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, detail-oriented, and able to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment with a high degree of initiative and self-motivation.
  • Knowledge and experience with digital health programs highly desired

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

 

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
