Sr. Research Specialist

We are seeking a Sr. Research Specialist who will contribute to the primary research interest of Dr. Li Gao’s laboratory that focuses on multi-omics and translational studies in allergic diseases and a variety of acute and chronic lung inflammatory disorders. The Sr. Research Specialist will apply extensive knowledge in the following areas: molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, immunology, transcriptional/post-transcriptional gene regulation, and functional genomics. This position will report directly to the PI, Dr. Li Gao. The Sr. Research Specialist will work closely with the PI to oversee the day-to day operations of the lab, design experiments, provide training to others, and may also contribute to peer-reviewed publications.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and follow protocols for in vitro and in vivo assays.
  • Design experiments to investigate gene function in immune cells and manage substantial research projects.
  • Supervise the work of trainees.
  • Independently perform all experiments related to laboratory interests.
  • Perform routine operational activities and day-to-day laboratory management, including but not limited to acquisition of supplies and equipment, inventory review, equipment maintenance to ensure the laboratory remains operational.
  • Meet regularly with PI and colleagues to review lab data, troubleshoot problems, prioritize tasks, and discuss newly published scientific literature.
  • Independently process and analyze data, formulate conclusions and create appropriate statistical presentations, including graphs and charts, for the purpose of reporting research/laboratory results, grant reports or scientific presentations.
  • After training, perform sophisticated data analysis on multi-omics data utilizing advanced third-party software.


Additional Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to use various software applications, e.g. spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or test reports.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
  • Four year's experience in a comparable laboratory performing relevant techniques.
  • Master's degree, with related graduate research, may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree or Ph.D. in related field.
  • Five plus years in a comparable laboratory performing relevant techniques, coupled with knowledge of biological sciences, molecular biology, or immunology.
  • Experience in statistical analysis or bioinformatics.

Starting Salary Range: $48,000 - $84,100 Annually ($56,500 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
