Sr. Systems Engineer
IT@JH Enterprise Management, Monitoring and Security (EMMS) is seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer who will play a critical role in designing, implementing and maintaining technologies that provide persistent virtual desktops for IT staff, non-IT staff and researchers at Johns Hopkins University and Medicine. The position will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal performance, security and scalability of the virtual desktop solution.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and manage virtual desktop service offerings based on current and emerging use cases.
- Automate virtual desktop deployment, administration, and retirement tasks utilizing PowerShell, APIs, and orchestration technologies.
- Monitor and troubleshoot virtual desktop performance, connectivity, and user experience issues.
- Collaborate with IT teams and the rest of Enterprise Management, Monitoring, and Security team to implement security best practices including systems management, access controls, conditional access policies, and network security.
- Create and modify reports for operational, security, and financial stakeholders

On-call Requirements
- Part of a weekly on-call rotation for the services provided by the EMMS team.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Six years related experience (Direct programming experience while pursuing education may count towards related experience. Significant undergraduate programming coursework or independent project can be considered as related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- Proficiency for creating, managing and retiring persistent virtual desktops on any platform.
- Familiarity with Azure services including Azure Resource Manager, Azure Active Directory, and related APIs.
- Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, or similar)
- Experience performing Operating System Deployment with MDT/SCCM/MCM.
- Experience creating and modifying Microsoft SQL queries and reports.
- Familiarity with JSON formatting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with creating and managing virtual systems in Azure using templates, automation, and SCCM/MECM/MCM.
- Familiarity with Azure Security Center, Log Analytics, and KQL.
- Knowledge and proficiency in Splunk.
- Knowledge of virtual networking in Azure, segmentation, and security.

Starting Salary Range: $84,700 - $148,300 Annually (Commensurate with experience)
