General Summary/Purpose

 

The senior medical writer will ensure that strategically aligned communication points are conveyed in medical writing deliverables and that the communication points are consistent across program documentation. He / she will mitigate risk associated with medical writing and disclosure processes by establishing and maintaining Best Practices and SOPs.

 

Responsible for the development of scientific content in a variety of formats, accurate interpretation of data, clear communication with clients and authors, efficient planning and organization, establishing effective working interactions with editorial, graphics, account services, and product management teams, and produce quality products efficiently under multiple timelines. Edit, help with manuscript publications and submissions to Radiological Science Magazines, Journals (i.e. Radiology, RadioGraphics, and Journal of American College of Radiology).

 

Work with outside vendors for design and print coordination for print publications (magazines, annual reports, newsletters, flyer, brochure). Collaborate with Director, Assistant/Associate Professor, and Instructor to help create content for abstracts, exhibits, annual reports, and radiology conferences or event as it occurs. Contribute story ideas and writing/editing (as requested) to internal publications

 

Minimum Qualifications  

 

Requires minimum of a master’s degree in related technical/scientific field. Must possess in-depth subject matter knowledge. Requires a minimum of one year related experience, preferably in technical/scientific field and writing samples may be required. 

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

Strong communication skills, written and verbal.  Excellent time-management skills, along with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple projects.  Experience using Microsoft Office, WordPress or Word Processing software

  • During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

  • The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
