Sr. Training Specialist, SOM Finance
School of Medicine (SOM) Central Finance is seeking a Sr. Training Specialist, SOM Finance to lead the development and implementation of comprehensive training programs focused on financial reporting systems, policies, and procedures. This role will be pivotal in establishing and maintaining a central repository of curated policies and procedures while effectively communicating updates and new initiatives to ensure compliance and understanding among SOM stakeholders. The ideal candidate will utilize adult learning principles to create engaging training materials and facilitate various learning modalities, contributing to the overall operational success of the financial activities within the School of Medicine.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Organize SOM specific training programs related to financial reporting systems, policies, and procedures.
- Develop and implement SOM specific training program for onboarding new hires with financial responsibilities.
- Organize and maintain a central repository of curated policies and procedures and associated communication as updates occur or new policies are published.
- Determine importance and relevance of assigning training, policies, and procedures to each team, level, and position.
- Develop SOM specific training programs for financial reporting systems, policies, procedures, or other activities important to the operations of the financial activities of the SOM.
- Establish means and method to ensure policy repository is up to date and accurate.
- Perform job and audience analyses to understand the skill sets required and specific training needs.
- Integrate business processes, policies and procedures, and financial reporting systems and tools into instructionally sound learning content.
- Learning engagements will use a variety of teaching strategies and principles of adult learning and will be provided in an assortment of formats/modalities including facilitated (in-person and virtual), self-paced, job aids, and on-the-job training (OJT).
- Analyze the knowledge and experiences of individuals in Central Finance and appropriate stakeholders to determine who to consult when developing trainings and policies.
- Manage the central repository for policies and procedures.
- Confirm individuals who have completed assigned resources and remind those who have not. As needed, escalate employee issues to managers.
- Understand the importance and relevance of trainings, policies, and procedures to maintain in central repository.
- Ensure Central Finance and associated stakeholders are informed and trained on the appropriate financial reporting systems, policies, and procedures.
- Partner with Director, Dean's Office, Central Finance; Department Directors and Administrators; University Budget; University Controller; Internal Audit; JHHS/JHM.
- Work with the appropriate subject matter experts in the design, development, and delivery of learning objectives and content.
- Work with the Instructional Designers (ISDs), on the Learning Solutions team, to ensure the deliverables meet principles of adult learning using the ADDIE model.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Five years of related experience in instructional design or training development/delivery.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in related field.
- Seven years of related experience, including some experience leading a learning program and managing a project team in a medium to large organization.
- Professional certification such as Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), or Human Capital Strategist (HCS)
- Experience in research financial management and academic business operations.
