Systems Engineer

General Summary/Purpose:


The position is responsible for providing Microsoft 365 (Office 365) support for faculty, staff, and students. They are expected to be the subject matter expert in the Microsoft 365 suite of tools that include, but are not limited to, Azure Active Directory, OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, Forms, OneNote, Power BI (Business Intelligence), Power Apps, Power Automate, and Microsoft Defender for Cloud App Security.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities:


The position will be responsible for maintenance, support, security configurations and third-party integration for the Microsoft 365 suite of toolsThey will work with internal customers and vendors to build solutions to support the various departmental needs. They will collaborate with internal IT teams to ensure innovative solutions meet all security and standards required by the institution.


Specific Devices, Software, Projects:

The position will provide support for the Microsoft 365 suite of tools used by customers around the world. They will partner with local IT support and departments to ensure their customers have secure access to the Microsoft 365 tools.


Scale/Size of Area, Project and/or System Supported:


The position will provide support for Johns Hopkins Medicine, Johns Hopkins University, Johns Hopkins affiliates, Johns Hopkins Community Hospitals, academic departments, and researchers. Customers will primarily be in the United States but may also be located around the world.

The position will participate in an on-call rotation.


Minimum Qualifications


Required Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree. 
  • Additional experience can be substituted for education.


Required Experience:

  • Five years related experience. 
  • Additional education can be substituted for experience.
  • Candidate must have previous experience supporting a Microsoft 365 environment.
  • This includes but is not limited to Azure Active Directory, OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, Forms, OneNote, Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate and third-party integration.


JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. 


Preferred qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have experience administering a Microsoft 365 environment for a large-scale company or school.


Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:


  • Although not required, the ideal candidate will have one or more Microsoft 365 and Office 365 certifications.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
