Talent Acquisition Specialist

General Description

As part of the Office of Human Resources and the Talent Acquisition team for Development and Alumni Relations, the Talent Acquisition Specialist provides service and support for full-cycle recruiting to include planning, sourcing, recruiting, interviewing, selecting, hiring, and on-boarding the right talent to position the organization for success in meeting its short and long term goals. Helps manage candidate and hiring manager experience through a thorough understanding of expectations.

Reports to Associate Director for Talent Acquisition. Fosters a collaborative team environment and a strong service oriented culture that ensures effective and efficient service delivery to internal customers and prospective candidates.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Creates and processes requisitions for openings across Development and Alumni Relations. Verifies funding source(s) for openings, confirms budgetary support, and secures approvals where needed.
  • Reviews and filters applications (online applications, resumes, and cover letters). Screens and interviews promising applicants for functional competence, applicable background, relevant skills, individual goals, and fit with organization.
  • Develops sourcing plans for talented and diverse candidates through both established and creative methods such as job posting, internal databases, employee referrals, online job boards and databases, online data mining, social media, career fairs, etc.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with research and candidate generation. Proactively builds and maintains a network of potential candidates through market research and ongoing relationship management. Sources both active and passive candidates and accurately assesses people to gauge motivation and fit.
  • Provides full-cycle recruitment for assigned requisitions. Develops recruiting plans that leverage knowledge of internal and external markets. Reviews relevant information on applicants with the hiring manager for consideration and decision.
  • Coordinates and schedules interviews and other appointments for candidates in concert with hiring managers. Arranges travel and accommodations for visiting candidates.
  • Manages, prioritizes, and closes searches against a timeline and set of overarching organizational priorities. Maintains detailed records of outreach and sourcing efforts. Provides regular recruiting status reports.
  • Ensures a positive candidate experience throughout the recruiting process. Maintains effective communication and coordination with all parties involved to engage promising candidates and create the right impression of the organization.
  • Coordinates offer and post-offer employment activities to include generating offers, drafting offer letters, sending offer packets, processing paperwork, etc.
  • Coordinates employment-related immigration processes in partnership with other offices. Stays abreast of basic processes, requirements, and timing.
  • Processes employee transactions involving personal data, organization data, position data, compensation data, etc.; enters and maintains data in appropriate HR information systems.
  • Collaborates with HR colleagues and hiring managers to ensure the successful on-boarding of new employees; works with supervisors, HR colleagues, and others to plan necessary actions.
  • Provides operational and administrative support for the Talent Acquisition team. Processes payments and reimbursements. Coordinates purchasing of supplies. Manages calendars. May provide other support as needed.
  • Recommends ideas that will improve recruitment effectiveness and efficiency and also contribute to the success of the organization. Make continuous process and service improvements where appropriate.
  • Ensures that recruiting and employment practices are compliant with applicable federal, state, and local laws.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Business Administration, or other related field required. Minimum of one year of related experience, preferably in recruitment. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building and utilizing a variety of sourcing plans and tools, including proactive phone and internet research.
  • Demonstrated success sourcing active and passive candidates for professional positions
  • Ability to research, analyze and interpret data.
  • Consulting and negotiation skills needed to be able to provide appropriate counsel and advice.
  • Must have proficiency working with the web, databases, Microsoft Office, job boards, social media, applicant tracking systems and electronic mail.
  • Knowledge of relevant employment laws.
  • Relevant professional certification such as Certified Internet Recruiter, Certified Staffing Professional, or Professional Recruiter Certification preferred.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

 

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
